I. Teaching aims and learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. get more information about robots;
2. use the new words and phrases correctly;
3. know advantages and disadvantages about robots;
4. talk about their ideal robots.
II. Teaching contents
1. New words and phrases: order, smoothly, satisfy, need, properly, complete, mess, lay, store, coin, bill, private, paper, spread, wheel, order one from a robot shop, look as good as new, tidy up, in general, go wrong, no longer, in a complete mess
2. New structures: He is always too busy to have any time to relax.
It seemed that in general the robot satisfied Mr Jiang’s needs.
The robot caught a virus and no longer worked properly.
When Mr Jiang got home, he would find his flat in a complete mess.

Step 1 Revision
1. Mr Jiang bought a new robot. How did the robot help Mr Jiang in the morning?

4. After the robot caught a virus, what happened?
5. What happened to the things in his flat?

1. smoothly

When Mr Jiang returned home from work, his flat would look as good as new.
3. satisfy
It seemed that in general the robot satisfied Mr Jiang’s needs.
This paper satisfied his teacher and parents.
I believe this car will satisfy her needs.
4. catch a virus work properly
The robot caught a virus and no longer worked properly.
This computer can’t work properly because it has caught a virus.
5. in a complete mess
When he got home, he would find his flat in a complete mess.
The room is in a complete mess, but this lovely robot can put things in order.
The bed is in a complete mess.
6. be stored
Milk was stored in the rubbish bin.
My father has stored many books in his study so far.
A lot of ice cream is stored in the lorry.
7. be spread
Coins, bills and his private papers were spread all over the floor.
Coins are spread all over the place.
Sweets are spread on the table.
8. what to do with
Mr Jiang didn’t know what to do with it.
The boy doesn’t know what to do with this math problem.
Mr Li knows what to do with this robot.

Step 4 Discussion
1. Advantages and disadvantages of robots
T: Work in groups and talk about advantages and disadvantages of the robots.
Advantages: They can do housework for us, take care of our pets, iron our business suits, do some shopping for us, let us have more free time, let us have more sleep, prepare our lunch boxes, cook delicious meals and so on.
Disadvantages: They may be easy to catch a virus, make stupid mistakes, put our food in the wrong place, move around and knock things over, make our house in a complete mess, not work properly, wake up too early and so on.

2. Your ideal robot
T: Work in pairs and talk about what your ideal robot is like.

3. China’s National Robot Competition
T: Every year, many students take part in China’s National Robot Competition. They design all kinds of robots. Do you want to join them?
【设计意图: 联系实际，对学生提出希望，激发学生的责任感与使命感，把积极的情感、态度和价值观融合在主题体验中，更容易收到潜移默化的效果。】
Step 5 Conclusion
T: I wish you would work hard and design useful robots in the future. I wish students would study better with the help of new types of robots. I wish people would have more free time and live longer. I wish robots would not catch viruses easily.
