Step I Lead-in
Ask students to raise their hands if they have ever seen a rainbow. Ask students to tell you when a rainbow occurs.
① Have you ever seen a rainbow?
② When can you see the rainbow?
③ How many colours are there in a rainbow?
④ What are they?
Step II
Explain to students that the colors of a rainbow always appear in order shown in the picture on Page 25. Ask them to write the colors in the blanks in Part A. This is a simple exercise and the students can work on their own.
Suggested answers:
1. red 2.orange 3.yellow 4. green 5.indigo 6.blue 7.violet
Let students review and conclude the names of the colours which they have learned before, then ask students to spell them correctly.
The names of the colours:
red; green; yellow; blue; orange; purple ; white; black; brown; grey; pink; violet; indigo
deep ( dark ) + color: deep blue; deep green; dark brown
light + color: light yellow; light blue; light green
bright / rich + color: bright/ rich red; bright / rich yellow
Step III
For Part B, ask two students to play the roles of Amy and Amy’s cousin. Ask them to read the conversation aloud. Then ask Ss to work in pairs and make a dialogue according to Army and her cousin’s conversation.
Sample conversation:
A: I’ve just seen a rainbow in the sky a moment ago.
B: Really? How many colours are there in a rainbow? Do you know?
A: Of course I do!
B: Then what are they?
A: They are red, orange, yellow, green, indigo, blue and violet.
Step IV
Ask students to list the things relate to the colours in groups.

Step I Revision
1. Revise different kinds of colours.
2. Let the students recognize the colours of the rainbow
3. Play the games, choose the different colours according to the words and pictures.
Step II Presentation
There’s also some relationship between colours and moods. The different colours represent different things and they affect us in many different ways. What information have you ever known? Ask the students to say as much as information as possible.
Step 3 Ask and answer
Activity 1
Answer the following questions.
1. Sandy worries a lot and often gets stressed. What colour should she use?
2. Daniel can help people calm down when they are angry. Do you know which the best colour is for him?
3. Kate is always in the library and she often gets good marks in tests. What colour can represent her?

Read the passage after the tape, trying to guess the meaning of the new words according to the context. Then finish the exercise, tell “ T or F”

Step I Presentation
Change the sentences according to the request.
1. He is very kind to us all. (同义句)

Ask students to write out the answers: 1 .good / friendly; 2. inviting. Tell the Ss that “kind /good /friendly”, “ask/invite” are two pairs of synonyms.
Synonyms are words that mean the same or nearly the same thing.

Step III A game
Ask some Ss to supply some words, let their partners give the synonyms of these words, let us see which pair works fastest and the most correctly.
Step IV Practice
1. Explain the context of Part A, tell Ss to complete Part A. Ask one student at a time to read out an answer. Check for mistakes and mispronunciation.
2. Explain the context of Part B, Ss work in pairs to find the right synonym in the box and write it opposite the corresponding word. The teacher reads out the words on the wheel one each time, Ss give a synonym for each one, paying attention to their pronunciation.
Step V A brainstorm.
Ask Ss to list synonyms as many as possible with the help of their dictionaries.
Step VI Extension activity
Explain that the opposite of a synonym is an antonym. Antonyms have the opposite meaning of a word.
For example: black ←→ white
common ←→ uncommon
