Unit5 Why do you like pandas
Analysis of the Teaching Material
【Curriculum requirements】
In this unit students will learn to describe animals and express preferences about the animals. Students will also learn to use the patterns “Why do you like …? Because they are…,Where are the lions from? They are from…”to talk about the animals. After learning the unit, students will get to know more about the animals and protect the animals around them.
Analysis of the Teaching Material:
This is the first period of the unit, students will get to know some animals and learn to ask, express preferences with the pattern “ Why do you like…? Because they are….” Also, students will learn some adjectives of quality.

New words and phrases: panda, zoo, tiger, elephant, koala, lion, giraffe, animal, cute, lazy, smart, beautiful, scary, my favorite animals, let sb + V原,
Sentences: “ Why do you like…? Because they are….”

Students get to know some more about the animals and learn to express the preferences about a certain animal.

Students gradually love the animals through the lesson, and then they could save and protect the animals around them.

Step I Revision
1. Have a dictation of the words and phrases of last unit.
2. Remind the students of some animals they have learnt before.
Step Ⅱlearn the new words.
1. Words:
panda, zoo, tiger, elephant, koala, lion, giraffe, animal, cute, lazy, smart, beautiful--ugly, scary, first--one
2. Phrases: my favorite animals, let sb + V原, want to do sth
Read the new words and phrases in different forms and finish the exercise of 1a in Section A.
Step Ⅲ Do the listening exercise and work on 1b.
1. Listen to the radio and check the animals you hear in 1a.
2. Listen to the radio again, check the answers.
3. Analysis the listening materials and lead in the new patters of the lesson.
Step ⅣWork on 1c, practice the conversation with the new pattern.
1. Present the dialogue.
A: Let’s see the lions.
B: Why do you want to see them?
A: Because they are interesting.
2. Practice the dialogue with different animals and adjectives.
Step Ⅴ Summary
Make a summary of the adjectives and the sentence pattern of the lesson.
Have Ss list the animals they know or show the pictures of animals they prepared before class and try to describe them.
Show pictures of different animals and let Ss guess the animals. Teach Ss the names of the different animals.
