Teaching Difficult Points: The astronomer’s occupation Teaching Preparation: pictures Teaching Aids: audiotape, flashcards, pictures Type of lesson: new lesson Teaching Procedure: Step1. Show the picture in the text to the students. Let them guess: 1. What is Danny doing? 2. Have you ever seen or used a telescope? 3. What would you like to use a telescope for/ Let the students answer the questions in class. Step2. Listen to the tape and fill in the blanks with the correct words you hear: 1. On _____ afternoon, Jenny and Brian visit Danny at his home. 2. Danny wants to discover a new ______. Finish the task in class in oral. Step3. Read the text and decide the following statements are true or false. 1. Danny uses a mirror to watch a sky. 2. Danny uses his telescope in the day at first. 3. Danny finds a new planet. Finish the task in class in oral. Step4. Practice Work in groups. Practice the dialogue. Then present it in front of the class. They can use the tools that used as a telescope. When they act, they can use their own words. Step5. Read the text again and find more questions about this text. S1: Why can’t Danny use the telescope well? S2: Because he sees through the wrong end. S3: Why can’t he still find the stars? S4: Because it is in the day. S5: When will he use his telescope? S6: At night. S7: Does Danny find a new star at last? S8: No, he doesn’t. Step6. Activities Suppose you are interested in one job. But you don’t you what to do. At this time, your friends come here and give you good advice. Finish the task in groups. They can have different jobs. Then after five minutes, let some students act their dialogues out in front of the class. Step7. Come to “LET’S DO IT’. Finish the task then make a chart to show the results. Interview five or ten of your classmates about these questions: What do you think is the most popular job? What other jobs do students want? After making the chart, let’s continue asking the following question: Why do they want these jobs? Make a report to the class. Present your own idea according to your interview. Step8. Homework 1. Finish off the exercises in activity book. 2. Go on the next reading in the student book. Summary: Let the students know the most popular job in the society. Why are the jobs popular? If they want to make their dream come true, what do they need? Let them know if they really suit the jobs. They may find their real interests by discussing. This also practices their spoken and written English.
