自读考点
1. million 之前用基数词修饰，始终用单数； millions of之前不能用具体数量修饰。
2. What if…意为“倘若……将会怎样；即使……又有什么要紧；尽管……又有什么关系”，表示一种猜测的担心焦虑的语气，常用于句首。例如：
What if I don’t know anyone?假如我谁也不认识怎么办？
3. with, without与if的条件句之间可以进行同义转换。例如：
He can work out the problem with my help.= He can work out the problem if I help him.
We can’t live without air or water.= We can’t live if there is not air or water.
4. bother=trouble意为“打扰”。
5. not…in the slightest=not…at all意为“根本不”。
6. fairly, rather, pretty意思都有“相当”，但fairly语气较弱，常用于褒义，rather语气较强，常用于贬义，可与副词too连用，可修饰比较级，可用在冠词之前，也可与动词连用，而fairly则不能。Pretty也常用于褒义，语气比fairly强。
7. plenty of=a lot of意为“许多”，后接名词。
8. look, get, become等系动词后接形容词作表语。
9. while, before, after, when引导的时间状语从句可以直接变为这些词后接doing的形式，但主从句的主语应一致。例如：
What would you do if you injured your knee while running?跑步时，如果你受伤了会怎么办？
9. like…rather than, prefer…to“喜欢……胜过……”，would rather…than, prefer to…rather than，prefer…instead of…表示“宁愿……而不愿……”，其中prefer…to中的prefer后接动词时用doing形式，而prefer to…rather than中的prefer to后只接动词的原形。例如：
He preferred to die rather than steal.= He preferred dying to stealing. = He preferred to die instead of stealing. = He would rather died than steal.
10. offer意为“提供”，常用搭配有：offer sb. sth.，offer sth. to sb.，offer to do sth. (主动)提出(要做某事)。
11. What would you do if you had a million dollars?如果你有一百万美元，你会怎么做呢？
由于此句所表达的假设不大可能发生，故其中的条件从句与主句使用了虚拟语气。若假设与现在事实相反或与将来事实相反，条件从句为If I (we, you, he, she, they) + 动词过去式(be的过去式为were)，主句为I (we) should (would) + 动词原形或you (he, she, they) + would + 动词原形。

What to Do during an Earthquake
If you are indoors, drop down to the floor. Get under a desk, a table or other furniture. Hold on to it and prepare to move with it. Stay in the place until the ground stops shaking and it is safe to move. Stay away from windows. Stay inside to avoid being hurt by falling glass or building parts.
If you are in a crowded area, find shelter. Stay calm and encourage others to do the same.
If you are outside, go to an open area and keep away from buildings and power lines.
If you are driving, stop if it is safe, but stay inside your car. Stay away from bridge, overpasses and tunnels. Move your car as far as possible, but remember to stay safe. If possible, don’t stop under trees, light posts, power lines, or signs.
If you are in a mountainous area, watch out falling rocks and other things that could be shaken down by the earthquake.
If you are at the beach, move quickly to higher ground or far away from the water.
