Teaching Procedure:
Step 1 Warming –up
1) Lucky birds: Ss are asked to find whether there is a card at the bottom of their desks. Anyone who has got a card should go to the blackboard to put it onto the right place. (countable or uncountable nouns)
2) The whole class try to correct some mistakes
3) Tell the difference between countable and uncountable nouns
Teaching purpose: To give a deep impression about the new words and countable & uncountable nouns. And it is also set to attract the attention of the students.
Step 2 Listening
1) Ss listen to a dialogue and fill in the blanks
2) The teacher calls back all the answers from the whole class.
3) Ss should pay attention to the new expressions for the second time.
Teaching purpose: To practice the ability of abstracting information form listening and strengthen students’ ability of finding out the key words through listening.
Step 3 Speaking
1) T: What do you know about English? Get some help from the text.
2) Activity 3 will be played for the Ss to read and find the proper answers. (Individual work)
a. English is a language __________________________________ than it actually is.
b. If you want to make great progress in English, you can go to those English clubs ______ are not only for people______________________________.
c. In the English corner, you can meet some people __________________________________ and you can often meet some people _____________________________________________.
2) Ss tried to complete the sentences listed above without looking at their text books and the teacher calls back the answers.
1) Teacher asked the Ss to find the common points of theses sentences and lead them into the grandma point—attributive clause. (example sentence analyzing)
It is the subject that I am best at.
2) Group work of 4: try to summarize the elements and rules of attributive clause. They are supposed to find them out as follows:
Three key elements:先行词;关系代词;
Rules
1. 定语从句是修饰一个名词或代词的从句。
2. 构成:先行词+关系代词 先行词由一个名词或代词但当。
关系代词有:that, which, who, whom, whose
注意:先行词(是人)关系词用that/who 先行词(是物)关系词用that/ which
表所属关系的用whose,当关系代词who在从句中做宾语时可用whom代替
5) Exercise Teaching purpose: To encourage Ss to learn from the text and hope to teach them how to learn.
Step 4 Reading
1) Ss read the passage again and then answer the questions.
2) Teacher calls back the answers and teach some reading skills.
3) Ss finish filling the blanks without looking at the passage.
4) Ss underline the new phrases of the text and learn it themselves and complete the sentences.
Teaching purpose: To improve the ability of reading comprehension and summarizing.
Step 5 Homework
1) Finish the handout
2) Finish the exercise about attributive clause in 《备考指导》
3) Recite the new words and expressions of Module 9 and get ready for the next quiz.
Step 6 Expansion
1) Find out all the sentences about attributive clause in Module 9 Unit 1 & 2
