Teaching Steps Period 1 Lead in: Good morning boys and girls! Welcome back to school! I’m so glad to see you again. And I’m so eager to know what happened in your summer vacation. As for me, I usually go swimming during my summer vacation. And I went swimming every day in the summer vacation. How about you? What do you usually do in your summer vacation? Could you please tell me? Step 1: Section A 1a 1.Show students some pictures and ask them to say what they do usually. a. Just now you talked about your activities in your summer vacation. Now let’s look at some pictures together and see what people usually do on vacation. b. Please answer my question: “What does this boy / this girl usually do on vacation?” c. Let’s look at the picture in 1a and write down the activities. 2.Read together. Do you know what these phrases mean in Chinese? Step 2: Section A 1b 1.Read in class. 2.Write. Period 2 Lead in: Yesterday we learnt some words and phrases to express frequency. Do you still remember them? Let’s have a review first. This survey shows how often Hilltop High School students exercise, how often they do homework and how often they watch TV. 2.Ask and answer. a. What activity do fifteen percent of Hilltop High School students do? How often do they exercise? b. What activity do ninety-five percent of Hilltop High School students do? How often do they do homework? c. What activity do eighty-five percent of Hilltop High School students do? How often do they watch TV? 3.Explain the definitions and the percentages. a. Now let’s look at the information in the green box. “Most students” means more than half. “Some students” means less than half. b. Let’s look at the relationship among these words. Step 5: Homework 1.Copy 3 and recite it, tomorrow we will write it from memory on the piece of paper that I give you; 2.Review the notes; 3.Preview the words in Section B. Period 3 Lead in: Now let’s dictate .OK, time is up. I need all the group leaders to collect your members’ pieces of dictation paper for me. Today we will start to learn Section B. Step 1: Section B 1a 1.Show students some pictures and ask them to say what they are. Look at the picture on PPT. Do you know what it is? Yes, it’s milk. Do you like drinking milk? How often do you drink it? Do you know what they are? Yes, they’re tomatoes, cabbages, peppers and carrots. We call them vegetables. Do you like eating vegetables? How often do you eat them? Do you know what they are? Yes, they’re bananas, apples, grapes and pears. They’re called fruit. Do you like eating fruit? How often do you eat it? What are these? They are cola, popcorn, and chocolate. They are called junk food. Do you like junk food? How often do you eat it? 2.Finish 1a. Match the words with the pictures. 3.Read read the words together. Step 2: Section B 1b Task 1: Make conversations with the words given: junk food, milk, fruit, vegetables, sleep, coffee. Sentence pattern: A: How often do you ...? B: I ... A: Do you like ...? B: Yes. / No ... Work in pairs and practice the dialogue. Step 3: Section B 2a 1.Listen and finish 2a. Now let’s listen to a conversation and try to finish 2a. 2.Check the answers. Shall we check the answers now? OK, please look at the PPT. Step 4: Section B 2b 1.Listen and finish 2b. 2.Check the answers. 3. Let’s listen to the tape and repeat. 4.Ask and answer. a. Work in pairs. Ask and answer the lifestyles of Katrina and Bill, using the structure below. A: How often does Katrina exercise? B: She exercises every day. How often does Bill exercise? A: He hardly ever exercises. b. When we use “hardly ever”, please pay attention to the third singular form, because the subject is the third singular form. The word “hardly ever” can not be used as a model verb. 当我们用 “hardly ever” 的时候,请注意用第三人称单数形式,因为主语是第三人称单数,“hardly ever”不能当作情态动词用。 5.Task 2: Please ask your friends about the questions in 2b. Do you think he /she is healthy according to the answers? a. Now practice with your partner and ask him/her the questions in 2b, using the structure below. Then give an assessment. A: How often do you drink coffee? B: I often drink coffee every day. A: Do you like it? B: Yes, very much. A: But it’s not good for your health. 6.Key words or structures. 1) want (sb.) to do sth. 想要(某人)做某事 e.g. I want him to go with me. 我想让他和我一起去。 2) It’s +adj. for sb. 对某人…… e.g. It’s not healthy for babies. 这对婴儿不健康。 3) vegetables:注意复数 fruit:常用单数 4) how many +名词的复数形式 e.g. How many books do you need? 你需要多少本书? Step 5: Summary a. Let’s summarize what we learnt in this period. b. Yes. We learnt what healthy food is and what junk food is. And we learnt the countable nouns and uncountable nouns. We practiced expressing how often we do something adequately. And we know how to give assessment to it now. Step 6: Homework 1.Copy the words on page 3 and 4, and recite them; 2.Copy the tape script of 2a and 2b and translate it into Chinese; 3.Tomorrow we will have a dictation of what we learnt today. Period 4 Step 1: Revision Now I speak Chinese, you speak English, and don’t forget to spell them out, OK? Step 2: Section B 3a 1.Listen and answer the question: How often does Katrina exercise? We’re going to listen to a letter from Katrina. When you are listening, please think over this question: How often does Katrina exercise? 2.Listen again and repeat. Now let’s listen to it again and repeat the sentence. 3.Answer the questions. Please close your textbooks. Just look at the PPT. Read the questions loudly together. What do they mean? Yes, very good! Attention, don’t look at your books. 4.Explain the key words in 3a. 1)pretty: 相当 e.g. She’s pretty young. 她相当年轻。 2) health:健康(名词) e.g. Look after your health. 注意你的健康。 3) healthy:健康的(形容词) e.g. He looks healthy. 他看上去很健康。 4)eating habit:饮食习惯 e.g. He has a healthy eating habit. 他有一个良好的饮食习惯。 5) try to do sth:努力做某事 e.g. He tries to study English. 他努力学英语。 6)help sb. (to)do sth.:帮助某人做某事 e.g. Let’s help him clean the room. 让我们帮他打扫房间吧! 7)grade:分数(可数名词) e.g. Are grades important to students? 分数对学生来说重要吗? 8)the same as:与……的相同 e.g. My hobbies are the same as yours. 我的爱好和你的一样。 9)different:不同的(形容词) e.g. Different people have different ideas. 仁者见仁,智者见智。 difference:区别(名词) e.g. I can’t see their differences. 我分辨不出它们的区别。 Step 3: Section B 3b 1.Fill in the blanks. Look at Bill’s letter and fill in the blanks on your own books. 2.Discuss with your partner. Exchange your answers with your partner. 3.Read the letter. Who’d like to read the letter for us? Please. Period 5 Lead in: Good morning, class! How are you today? Did you have a good sleep last night? Don’t be too tired because we should have a healthy lifestyle. Let’s go on learning Unit 1. This is the last period. Step 1: Revision 1.First, let’s write down 3a from memory. 2.Please hand in your paper. Quickly! Step 2: Self-check-1 Fill in the blanks.
