Ability goals 能力目标 1) To recognize words about school life, to identify subjects in the school, to understand the life in the different school, to identify specific information about school life and to show understanding of relevant information by completing a dialogue. 2) To develop grammar learning strategies and to use a recording system to help memorize grammatical structures. 3. Learning ability goals 学能目标 To understand the life in the different school. Teaching important and difficult points 教学重难点 To identify specific information about school life. Teaching aids 教具准备 Tape recorder and projector. Teaching procedures and ways 教学过程与方式 Step I Free talk about school life The teacher asks the Ss to talk about their school life with their partners. Show the questions on the slide. 1. Which school do you study in? 2. How many classmates do you have in your class? 3. What do you learn in your school? 4. Which subject do you like best? Why? Ask the Ss to introduce several activities in school. Step II Integrated skill 1. Warm-up T: Boys and girls, we have learnt much about John’s school. How much do you still remember? S1: He is in Year 8. S2: His school is Woodland School near London. S3: His favorite subject is Home Economics. S4: His school has a Reading Week every year. T: Good! You remember so much. Today we’ll know more about John’s and another student’s schools. 2. Compare schools T: Now, there is a table of three different schools in Part 1. Look at it carefully and ask some questions. Sample questions: What’s the length of summer holiday in Woodland School? Do students wear uniforms in all three schools? 3. Listening After they are clear with the table, play the recorder for them. T: Listen to the tape, complete the table, please. Check the answers with the whole class. Then play the recorder for the second time, ask them to match the sentences to the correct people. T: Read the six statements first. Listen to the recording again. Match the sentences to the correct people. (John, Daniel and Nancy) 1. My school has fewer weeks off in the summertime than Daniel’s school. 2. My school uniform is different from John’s. 3. I spend less time doing homework than John does. 4. My school has the most students. 5. My school has the fewest classroom. 6. My school has more teachers than John’s school, but fewer than Daniel’s school. 4. Practice T: Please read the missing words in the box in Part A1 and use them to complete the information in the table of Part A2. In pair, students check their answers. Ask them to complete the information as they can in the table. 5. E-mail T: Please read Daniel’s e-mail in Part A3 to obtain the details of Daniel’, John’ and Nancy’s school life. Check their choice of different people. Students take turns to read the completed e-mail to the class. Step III Speak up T: Please listen to the tape recording and read after it. Ask the Ss to work in pairs to make up new conversation for talking to a friend from another school using the conversation in Part B as a model. Ask a few pairs to present their conversations to the class. Step IV Pronunciation (Showing surprise) Take students through the two patterns at the top of the page. Ask students to do Part A using the two grammar patterns. Encourage them to make their voice rise and fall correctly when they speak English. Ask students to finish the task on Page 34 (Part B). Step V Language points: 1. length n. : e.g. The fish is two feet in length. The length of the movie is two hours. We walked the length of the street. long a.-length n. wide a.-width. n. 2. How many classmates do you have? How many classmates are there in your class? 3. How about you? And you? What about you? 4. each week: every week / once a week Step VI Homework 1. Review the contents of this lesson. 2. Do the Exercises of the workbook.
