In the sentence “Can you tell me where you’re from?” “Can you tell me” is the main clause, and “where you’re from” is the object clause. Now we go on to make similar sentences. Can you tell me where you’re from? Can you tell me where he’s from? Can you tell me what you are going to do? Can you tell me when he leaves for Beijing? Can you tell me how they are going to go to Nanjing? Can you tell me who will tidy up the room? Can you tell me whether he is a teacher or not? ■Read and listen. On page 10 in the box is a conversation between among Chen Huan, Receptionist, Sally and Lingling. Now let’s go on to read it first. While reading, try to: cut/ the sentence into thought groups, study the predicative, darken the connectives and underline all the useful expressions. (阅读过程中,断开/意群,观察谓语构成,圈出连词,摘录短语搭配。) ■Make object sentences. I hope we can feed pigs here. I think we can take a taxi there. I hope I can buy a new car for my collection. It shows how life has changed. He insisted that that's an interesting hobby. I hope these trees can help the environment. I think it will also provide a home for me. I don’t think trees also improve the air. Sally: It’s a very nice place. But I don’t like the word “foreigner”. My visit here is all about making friends. Chen Huan: OK, Sally, thank you. And good luck with the movie… (They stop.) That was great! So this recording will be part of the news report. By the way, why don’t you bring all your friends for a visit to Beijing Daily? Maybe sometime next week? Lingling & Sally: OK, thanks! ■Write down reasons for planting trees. 一Why is it a good idea to plant trees? 一We think that planting trees will help the environment. 一We think that planting trees will clear up the air. 一We think that planting trees will provide jobs for young people. 一We think that planting trees will be interesting to students. 一We think that planting trees will develop the environment. 一We think that planting trees will be fun to us. ■Write two things you can do for the environment. Here are some ideas: ·Plant trees. ·Save energy. Recycle paper. Don’t waste water or paper. Feed pigs. Develop farming. Turn off TVs. Don’t throw away untidy clothes. Walk to school. Take a taxi to school. ■Close down by comparing your ideas from Activity 6. Choose the best idea and then suggest it to the class. We think that planting trees is very useful. We think that we can do a lot of things to save energy. We think that recycling paper can save energy. We think that we can not waste water or paper. We think that we can feed pigs with used paper. We think that we can turn off TVs on Sundays. We think that we can not throw away untidy clothes. We think that we can walk to school to help the environment.
