1 To introduce the pronunciation of the endings of the past tense forms of regular verbs
2 To identify the different sounds of the ‘ed ’ endings
Teaching steps
1 Background information
we pronounce the ‘ed’ endings as
/ t / after a voiceless consonant , except / t/
/d / after a vowel or voiced consonant , except / d /
/ id /after / d / or / t /
2 Ask students to listen to the different sounds at the end of the verbs in Part A .
Then ask them to the repeat the verbs, paying attention to the different endings .

3 Ask students to listen to the words and write down the sounds they hear.
4 Ask students to compare their answers in pairs .Remind them of the / id / rule. Check the correct sounds around the class.
5 Introduce the context of the conversation in Part C .Plat the recording .Tell students to pay attention to the different sounds of the ‘/ ed /’ endings.
6 Ask students to read the conversation in groups of three .When students become more confident ,ask them to role-piay the conversation in groups of three.
