Step 1: Lead-in
1. T: We use adjectives to describe people and things. We can put it before a noun or after a linking verbs. For example: The girl is tall. She is a tall girl. Her hair is long. She has long hair.
2. Present linking verbs
am, is, are, became, turn, grow, get, feel, look, smell, sound, taste…
(We can put an adjective in front of a noun. We can also put an adjective after a link verb.)
Finish Part A and ask students to read the sentences and check the answers.
Step2: Comparatives and superlatives
1. T: Millie has long hair, Sandy has long hair, too
Millie has longer hair than Sandy.
Millie is slim. Sandy is slim, too. Millie is slimmer than Sandy.
Kate is tall, Betty is taller than her, but Kitty is the tallest of the three.
2. Show Ss more pictures. Help them say sentences to compare the things with comparatives and superlatives.
3. Work out the rule.
Comparative: than, much, even, still, a little, of the two, Which/Who is …, A or B?
Superlative: the, of…, in …, Which/Who is …, A, B or C?
Step 4: Practice
Ask students to compare the things or classmates in their class, using comparatives and superlatives
Step 5: Discussion
Ask students to read the table in Part B and work out the rules for forming comparatives and superlatives.

比较级和最高级的构成
1) 大多数形容词后加-er/-est
clever---cleverer----cleverest
2) 以不发音字母e结尾的形容词加-r/-st
fine---finer----finest
3) 以辅音字母加y结尾,先把y改成i,然后再加-er/-est
healthy---healthier----healthiest(happy,sunny,easy,heavy,busy,early,lucky....)
4) 以重读闭音节结尾的形容词,先双写最后一个辅音字母,然后再加-er/-est
big--bigger---biggest(fat,sad,wet,red,thin,slim,hot....)
5) 部分双音节单词和多音节单词,在原级前加more/most
lovely--more lovely--most lovely
(slowly,tired,interesting,famous,beautiful,important.....)
6) 不规则变化
