Reading (I)

Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Pre-reading
a. Lead-in: Quick answers
Welcome to my class! Hi! Hello! Good morning/afternoon/evening/night! Goodbye! Bye-bye! Bye! What’s your name? You’re Millie, right? How are you? How old are you? Are you a doctor?...
(Purpose: Review the lesson which we learned last time—greetings.)
b. Presentation: A report about me and my daughter
I’m your English teacher. Do you want to know me well? Please listen carefully! My name is… I’m a teacher at…Middle school. I’m…years old. I have long hair. I like dancing and listening to music. Also I love reading after school. Let’s meet a lovely girl.
This is Anna. She is my daughter. She is 11 years old. She is a student from No. 2 Primary School. She is in Class12 Grade 5. She is tall and slim. Her hair is long too. She likes music too. She is good at dancing and playing the piano.
(Purpose: Listen to the report and learn some new words and phrases.)
Step 2: While-reading
a. Read silently and finish Part B1.
Take out the masks and present the four students. Then let them go through the passages quickly and match the hobbies.
(Purpose: Read in silence and catch the information about their hobbies.)
b. Read after the tape and finish Part B2.
Read each paragraph aloud after the tape. Do T/F. Add some questions.
Such as, Millie: How old is Millie? Which school is she at?
Simon: What sport does he like best?
Sandy: Is she fat? Is her hair long?
Daniel: Where is he from? Is he clever?
(Purpose: Let the students imitate the pronunciation and know the main appearance of the students. )
c. Read aloud by themselves and fill in the form. And then finish Part B3.

d. Retell the passages according to the form information.
Give the students a few minutes to prepare for the presentation. Pay attention to use the adjectives to make sentences.

Step 3: Post-Reading
a. Have a discussion and say something about yourself and your partner.

b. Present the report about yourself and your partner.
Step 4: Homework
a. Read the passages again and again and try to say something about the four students.
b. Underline the difficult parts and discuss them with your classmates.
