22.(8分)Machines might one day replace human laborers in a number of professions, but surely they won't ever replace human artists.Right?
Think again. Not even our artists will be safe from the inevitable machine takeover,if a new development in artificial intelligence by a team of researchers from Rutgers University and Facebook's A.I.lab offers a clue of what's to come. They have designed an A.I.capable of not only producing art,but actually inventing whole new aesthetic styles similar to movements like impressionism or abstract expressionism, reports. The idea, according to researcher Marian Mazzone, was to make art that is "novel, but not too novel."
The model used in this project involved a generator network, which produces the images, and a discriminator network, which "judges" whether it's art.Once the generator learns how to produce work that the distributor recognizes as art,it's given an additional directive: to produce art that doesn't match any known aesthetic styles.
"You want to have something really creative and striking—but at the same time not go too far and make something that isn't aesthetically(美学地)pleasing,"explained Ahmed Elgammal.
The art that was generated by the system was then presented to human judges alongside human-produced art without showing which was which. To the researchers' surprise, the machine-made art scored slightly higher overall than the human-produced art.
Of course, machines can't yet replace the meaning that's infused in works by human artists, but this project shows that artist skill sets certainly seem duplicatable by machines.
What will it take for machines to produce content that's infused with meaning? That might be the last A.I. frontier.Human artists can at least hang their hats in that field...for now.
"Imagine having people over for a dinner party and they ask,‘Who is that by?’And you say,‘Well,it's a machine actually’.That would be an interesting conversation starter,"said Kevin Walker.

A.Artists won't be replaced by AI.

C.AI is totally at a loss about impressionism.
D.AI fails to reflect abstract expressionism.
2、What did Marian find in his study?
A.AI can copy the skills of artists.
B.AI can combine content with meaning.
C.AI can make art aesthetically unpleasant.
D.AI can please human judges with its art.
3、What does the underlined phrase “hang their hats” mean?
A.Discover. B.Hold.
C.Struggle. D.Survive.
4、What Kevin said in the last paragraph tells us that_____.
A.she uses machines to cook for a party B.she likes to join in a dinner party

Science has a lot of uses. It can uncover laws of nature, cure diseases, make bombs, and help bridges to stand up. Indeed science is so good at what it does that there’s always a temptation(诱惑) to drag it into problems where it may not be helpful. David Brooks, author of The Social Animal: The Hidden Sources of Love, Character, and Achievement, appears to be the latest in a long line of writers who have failed to resist the temptation.
Brooks gained fame for several books. His latest book The Social Animal, however, is more ambitious and serious than his earlier books. It is an attempt to deal with a set of weighty topics. The book focuses on big questions: What has science revealed about human nature? What are the sources of character? And why are some people happy and successful while others aren’t?
To answer these questions, Brooks surveys a wide range of disciplines(学科). Considering this, you might expect the book to be a dry recitation of facts. But Brooks has structured his book in an unorthodox(非常规的), and perhaps unfortunate, way. Instead of introducing scientific theories, he tells a story, within which he tries to make his points, perhaps in order to keep the reader’s attention. So as Harold and Erica, the hero and heroine in his story, live through childhood, we hear about the science of child development and as they begin to date we hear about the theory of sexual attraction. Brooks carries this through to the death of one of his characters.
On the whole,Brooks’ story is acceptable if uninspired. As one would expect, his writing is mostly clear and, to be fair, some chapters stand out above the rest. I enjoyed, for instance, the chapter in which Harold discovers how to think on his own. While Harold and Erica are certainly not strong or memorable characters, the more serious problems with The Social Animal lie elsewhere. These problems partly involve Brooks’ attempt to translate his tale into science.
1、The author mentions the functions of science at the beginning of the passage to__________.
A.illustrate where science can be applied

D.Its memorable characters.
3、What is the author’s general attitude towards the book?
A.Contradictory.
B.Supportive.
C.Cautious.
D.Critical.
4、What is the author likely to write about after the last paragraph?
A.Problems with the book.
B.Brooks’s life experience.
C.Death of the characters.
D.Brooks’s translation skills.
24.(8分) When I was a boy there were no smart phones. Computers were something you saw on STAR TREK(星际航行),and our television only got one channel clearly. Still, I was never bored. The fields, hills, and woodlands around my house were the nature ready-made playgrounds.
I can remember once hiking to a nearby lake and slowly walking around it. At the backside of it I was amazed to find an old, one-lane, dirt road that I had never seen before. I immediately set out to travel it. It was full of holes and muddy tracks and deep woods bordered it on both sides, but exploring it still seemed like a fine adventure.
I walked on and on for what seemed like hours. I was sure my guardian angel was whispering in my ear to turn around and head back home but I was stubborn and even a bit stupid, so I walked on.
The dirt road give way to a rock one and then a paved one, yet there was still neither a car nor a house in sight. My legs were getting tired. I noticed that the sun was starting to go down and I grew scared. I didn’t want to end up trapped on this road in the dark of night, but I was sure it would be dark before I could make my way back to the lake again.
I was almost in tears when I turned one last curve(弯曲处) and saw something in the distance. It was a house that I recognized. My heart leapt up! I jumped up and down and laughed out loud. I knew the way home! It was still over a mile away but my legs felt like feathers and I hurried back to my house in no time. I walked in with a big smile on my face just in time for dinner.
I remembered this recently when I saw a sign that said, “All roads lead Home.” This is true. In this life all roads no matter what their twists(弯曲) and turns are can lead us home again. They can lead us to our homes here on Earth. They can lead us to our homes in our heart, if we can insist.
1、Why was the author never bored when he was a boy?
A.Because there was still a TV.
B.Because he liked hiking alone.
C.Because there were so many playgrounds built for him.
D.Because he had so many places around his house to play.
2、What made the author decide to take the old road?
A.Seeing it before.
B.That it was a muddy road.
C.Trying a new and special experience.
D.That it had deep woods on both sides.
3、How did the author feel when he saw a known house in the distance?
A.Excited. B.Frightened.
C.Touched. D.Desperate.
4、Why did the author mention the sign?
A.To share a famous saying with readers.
B.To introduce what he wanted to say.
C.To explain the function of the sign.
D.To prove the significance of the sign.
25.(10分)To err is human. Society is suffering from an inability to acknowledge as much.
For individuals, errors are painful. The trick, then, is to err well: to recognize mistakes and learn from them. Worryingly, humanity may be getting worse at admitting its mistakes.
Few enjoy the feeling of being caught out in an error. But real trouble starts when the desire to avoid a punishment leads to a refusal to deal with contrary evidence. Economists often assume that people are sensible. When faced with a new fact, these people should update their view of the world to take better decisions in future. Yet years of economic research confirms that people frequently disregard information that conflicts with their view of the world.
Why should that be? Last year Roland Benabou, of Princeton, presented a framework for thinking about the problem. In many ways, beliefs are like other economic goods. People spend time and resources building them, and get value from them: some beliefs make owners feel good and show their public identity; other beliefs provide value by shaping behavior—for example, religious asceticism(禁欲主义) can help one avoid unhealthy habits.
Because beliefs, however, are not simply tools for making good decisions, but are treasured in their own right, new information that challenges them is unwelcome. People often engage in “motivated reasoning” to manage such challenges. Mr B
