1. awful
a. adj. used in order to emphasize how much of something is, or how good, bad, etc something is

b. adj. very bad or terrible; unpleasant 讨厌的;不好的

2. efficient adj. working well, quickly, and without wasting time, energy or effort 效率高的;有能力的

efficiency n. (uncountable) efficiently adv.
11. quite used together with a few, a bit, a little or a while, etc to show that an amount or number is large
e.g. She went away and was gone quite a little while.

e.g. You have no real comprehension of what it is like to be poor.
15. The less anxious and more relaxed the learner, the better their language acquisition. 学习者越不紧张, 越能放松自己, 学习习得的效果就越好。
The +(比较级)……, the +(比较级) 越……, 就越……。前者为比较状语从句, 后者为主句。

19. adopt
a. vt. formally approve and accept sth 采纳
e.g. a no-smoking policy has recently been adopted at work.
