13、 Many Chinese girls love "small, fresh meat", which refers to young, effeminate(女人气的) male stars. However, not everyone is a fan of them. On Sept. 6, an article described some male stars as too effeminate.
This came after CCTV was criticized for inviting several young male stars to perform on First Class for the New Semester,an educational TV show for primary and secondary school students, which aired 5days earlier. After that, many parents left comments online, saying the stars in the show had a bad influence on their children.
The popularity of effeminate male stars is partly down to the influence of Japanese and South Korean pop culture, an expert told China Daily. However, the “femininity” of males isn't a recent social phenomenon. In fact, being effeminate was popular among Chinese men centuries ago.
Indeed, the debate about effeminate male stars has been going on for a while. In July, a Hong Kong singer said during the singing reality show Sing! China that he feels tired of seeing effeminate male stars. “It isn't that they're not good, but we should discover ourselves.”He said during the show.
His opinion was shared by a Chinese director. “Some young actors are feminine and they should be more manly,” he said.
Deng Xiquan, head of the Youth Research Institute at the China Youth and Children Research Center, believes such a phenomenon is completely natural.“It will be replaced by a new youth culture at some stage. If a man has feminine beauty, this doesn't mean that he lacks responsibility,” Deng told China Daily. Deng's opinion was echoed by the People's Daily.“A man's strength should be judged on the basis of their inner qualities - not their phyical apperance,” it wrote.

14、Once I spoke at a high school. After the speech, I was asked to see a special student. An illness had kept the boy at home, but he had expressed an interest in meeting me, and it would mean a great deal to him. I agreed. He was Matthew. When he was born, the doctor told his parents that he would not live to see five, then they were told he would not make it to ten. Now he was thirteen. He wanted to meet me because I was a gold-medal weight lifter, and I knew about overcoming obstacles and going for my dreams.

Dear Rick,
My mom said I should send you a thank-you letter for the picture you sent me. The doctors tell me that I don’t have long to live any more. But I still smile as much as I can.
I told you some day I was going to the Olympics and win a gold medal. But I know now I’ll never make it. But I know I’m a champion, and God knows that too. When I get to Heaven, God will give me my medal and when you get there, I will show it to you.

16、It was summer in Russia. My goal there at the Ozernaya River was to take photos of brown bears as they caught fish.
During the first few days, I was mainly watching different bears to see which ones would be the best to take pictures of. I usually saw about 10 to 15 bears at a time, but as many as 600 living near came to this river when the salmon(鲑鱼) were swimming there to lay their eggs. I put my camera underwater and then waited for bears to move near.
I never moved towards them – I let them choose whether to come closer. Over time, the bears were used to my being there. But if a bear started moving its head from side to side. I knew it was time for me to move away.
It’s no easy task for a 1300-pound bear to catch a fish. Bears areclumsyunderwater and salmon are fast. But bears are smart enough to catch a sick fish.
Soon I saw a bear doing just that. He was moving slowly towards a fish. After several tries, the hungry bear managed to catch the fish, and he sat down right in the river to eat his meal. This bear didn’t pay attention to my camera as he caught and ate his salmon. That was a good opportunity for me to take photos. Once the meal was over, he stayed in the rover to relax.
