《月光族》
Nowadays, more and more people, especially the young are joining in the army of “the moonlight clan”. These people exhaust their earnings every month without any savings. Many people think this is a fashionable life style, while other people object to this kind of consumption style.
Those who support “the moonlight clan” think that “the moonlight clan” knows how to enjoy life and have a higher life quality. However, other people criticize “the moonlight clan”. They say that the consumption habit of “the moonlight clan” is unhealthy and sometimes wasteful. In addition, no savings will place “the moonlight clan” in a difficult position in case of unexpected expenses.
Weighing these two arguments, I prefer the latter one. In my eyes, though “the moonlight clan” may acquire temporary satisfaction from their consumption, in the long term, it is unfavorable to their family and career. Just as a proverb says, one should always prepare for a rainy day.
《自主创业》
Nowadays there are many college students who choose to start their own undertakings instead of finding a job after graduation. The government encourages this practice, and provides many preferential policies and facilitation measures for college students. This phenomenon has aroused great concern from the whole society.
However, why do so many college students take the way of starting their own undertakings? Firstly, college students are facing severe employment situations. Many college graduates couldn’t find ideal jobs, which forces them to set up their own businesses. Moreover, some ambitious college students are not satisfied with being employed by others. They want to develop and prove their talents by running their own businesses. Besides, the government’s encouragement and the media’s reports on college students venture stars have stimulated more college students’ enthusiasm to take this way.
As for me, it is a good choice for college students to start their own undertakings. However, it is a very difficult cause, which needs firm determination, clear mind, ability to endure hardship and a feasible project. Therefore, think it over and make full preparation before you decide to start your own business。

Psychological Problems among College Students
No one can have failed to notice the fact that psychological problems are becoming serious among college students. Reports are often heard that some collegians committed suicide or murdered their roommates. Typical examples include the case of a Chinese student named Ma Jiajue and that of a Korean student studying in the U.S.
Then what are the causes of these problems among college students? The following might be some of the sources of these young men and women’s troubles. First, as young adults, most of them are at the stage of personality formation and are quite sensitive to their surroundings. Secondly, they are at a critical point of personal development and are facing pressure from various aspects: love, academy, job-seeking and so on. To make things worse, most of them are living off home and without their parents care and supervision.
To solve the problems for these young people, it is essential that the channel of communication be kept open among students, between students and their superintendents as well as between students and their parents. Besides, psychological counseling should be enhanced and rendered to problem students in time. Only with these measures taken can we expect sound growth of college students.

1. Directions: In this part, you are to write a composition of no less than 150 words about “College Graduates Work as Village Officials”. You should write according to the outline given below. Please remember to write it clearly on the ANSWER SHEET.
Some college graduates choose to work as village officials.
1.Do you think it is a good idea?
2.What can they offer the countryside?
3.What can they gain from their village positions?
1. College Graduates Work as Village Officials
There is no denying the fact that it is a hotly debated topic today how college graduates should choose their careers. Some time ago, it was reported that some college graduates chose to work as village officials. To this people’s attitudes differ sharply. Some hold the positive view while others are against it. As far as I am concerned, I believe that it is a wise choice.
On the one hand, college graduates can contribute a lot to the development of the countryside. First, they can apply their professional knowledge there. Secondly, they can introduce new concepts to the countryside and speed the development of rural culture. As a result, the gap between the city and the countryside can well be bridged.
On the other hand, these graduates can benefit a lot from working as village officials. While too many college graduates are fighting for the handful of positions in big cities, these graduates can find themselves a wider stage of development and realize their value.
Therefore, college graduates working as village officials is a win-win choice and more graduates should be encouraged to work in the countryside.
〈啃老族〉(On the Overdependence of China’s College Students on Their Parents)
In the United States, students generally seek an independent life at 18. They take on part-time jobs, live away from their parents, and finance their own education partially, if not completely. Upon graduation, they find a job, or launch their own business by filing for loans from the bank. They live in rented apartments even after marriage and buy a house only when they can afford it. This is a typical pattern how the American younger generation grows up.
By contrast, most college students in present-day China, as the sole children of their families, take for granted their excessive dependence upon their parents. They hold their parents responsible for furnishing them with all the tuitions and living expenses. They seldom work part-time to alleviate their parents of their burdens. They have expensive dinners and birthday celebrations with their parents’ hard-earned money through months of hard work.
In recent years, under the pretext of employment difficulty, some students return home to live with their parents after graduation. While their parents are busy at work, they idle away their time day after day, least concerned with finding a job to have their own source of income. Worse still, they exhaust every penny of their parents and even grandparents to buy an apartment for their own enjoyment. In doing so, they even plunge their parents into serious debts.
This group of students have come to acquire an infamous name—“the Elderly-Devouring Community”. A more understandable phrase might be “parasites”. This community has come into existence as a result of long-time over-indulgence on the part of parents and the indolence and selfishness on the part of students themselves. Compared with their American counterparts, Chinese students should feel ashamed of themselves and take immediate actions to terminate their elderly-devouring behavior and become independent and self-reliant.

(1) 现在有越来越多的人想出国留学;

Nowadays, with the advance of science and technology, an overwhelming proportion of population intends to study abroad. There are students from colleges and universities, from the middle schools, from the primary schools, and individuals from all walks of life. What difference does it make between studying abroad and studying home?
Though many students are crazy about going abroad to pursue their higher education, I hold to the belief that studying home is preferable. For one thing, you don’t have to take foreign language tests such as TOEFL and GRE. This can save you a tremendous amount of time, money and effort, allowing much of your energy to be devoted to your academic foals. In addition, if you study home, you can stay with your family and old friends. Meanwhile, while studying home, you can enjoy the kind of intimate friendship and comfortable family atmosphere which you can only dream of in a foreign university, where you will be accompanied by your own shadow most of the time. For these reasons, pursuing one’s higher education at home is a more realistic and sensible choice。

2. Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic Knowledge and Diploma. You should write at least 120 words following the outline given below in Chinese:
(1) 有人认为文凭越高越好;
(2) 而有些人则认为文凭不代表你的能力;
(3) 你的观点。
With the advance of the society, an increasing number of individuals enroll in the postgraduate examination for getting a high diploma. It is believed that high diploma equals to high ability and profound knowledge. Most companies are inclined to hire the people with high diploma. It seems that having high diploma means a better future。
However, is it really true that high diploma equals to high ability or profound knowledge? Some people do not agree on this kind of idea. They claim that ability or knowledge means more than diploma. Take Bill Gates, the head of the Microsoft, for example, he does not have a MBA degree which is believed to play a vital role in the success in commercial life. Furthermore, Sam Walton of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. does not a MBA degree, but they are the most successful man in commercial。
In my opinion, diploma does not equal to knowledge. A diploma is a piece of paper which establishes your education degree. But your true ability and the real knowledge come from your hard work and endowment. If you got a diploma by dishonest behavior, no matter how high a diploma it is, it were just a piece of paper, and you were as blank as that paper。
