meaning of shaft 1). verb. cheat, swindle, screw to do wrong to someone
2). noun. a bad deal or unfair treatment, e.g., Thanks a lot! You really gave me the shaft.

meaning of bent. 1) adjective. dishonest or crooked (which is the case we just talked)

meaning of "up for grabs" --something which is free and available to anyone.
meaning of "fair game"---legal to hunt or shoot or criticize. A beautiful, unmarried girl is fair game for pursuit.
