Make the first move. Don’t be shy, because it won’t help you in anything. Look around for someone that seems interesting, and then talk to them. A good subject to talk about to anyone is music, because almost everybody likes music. You can ask someone what kind of music they like and start a cool conversation with them and even find things in common. Other topics could be movies or sports. Keep away from those subjects like politics, religion, relationship problems and drama. Be nice. How do you expect them to like you if you are not nice? Put a calm smile on your face and find out what you and the person you are trying to befriend(待人如友) have in common. You’ll be able to be more comfortable if you find out that other person has things in common with you. Be a good listener. Pay attention to what they say, look straight in their eyes and show you’re paying attention. It’s important to be a good listener, because everyone likes to be heard. If this person feels like you’re listening to them, your new friend will enjoy talking with you more. Develop friendships. You may talk to someone now but soon they’ll forget you if you stop. You’d better take a time to say hi to them every day and ask how they’re doing. Say their name as often as you can. If you do that every day, they’ll be happy that you care about them and remember them, so they won’t forget you and they will become your good friends. 56. What’s the main idea of the text? A. How to help shy teenagers. B. How to make friends. C. Listen to others carefully. D. Being yourself is important. 57. Which of the following is a good subject to start a conversation with a stranger? A. Music. B. Politics C. Religion D. Drama 58. When you listen to others speaking, you should __________. A. close your eyes B. stare at the ground C. nod your head often D. look straight in their eyes 59. Which of the following is a good way to develop friendship? A. Ask others personal problems. B. Invite others to dinner every day. C. Say hello to others every day. D. Forget about others’ shortcomings. Ancient paintings on the walls of caves show people living with dogs. Almost a third of the homes in the United States and England have dogs, and these dogs come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. The largest dog in the world was a dog named Zorba. When Zorba, a mastiff(大驯犬), was seven years old in 1989, he was 94 centimeters (37 inches) tall. In other words, Zorba was more than half as tall as an adult man. At his largest, Zorba weighed more than a heavyweight boxer(拳击运动员) at 156 kilograms (343 pounds). In comparison, the smallest dog was a Yorkshire terrier from England. This dog was only the size of a matchbox, measuring 7.1 centimeters (2.8 inches) tall and 9.5 centimeters (3.75 inches) from nose to tail. The dog weighed about half as much as a book, and even a young child could easily pick it up with one hand. It passed away in 1945 when it was only two years old. Some dogs are remarkable, not for their size, but for their brain. One incredible dog is Endal, the companion(陪伴者) of a man named Allen Parton who has used a wheelchair since a car accident in 1991. In 2001, Parton was hit by a car while crossing a road with Endal, and thrown out of his chair. Endal quickly moved Parton into the recovery position(复苏姿势), covered him with a blanket, and pushed his mobile phone close enough for him to reach. Then, once he saw that Parton was all right, Endal ran back and forth to a nearby hotel, barking until people came out to help. Endal was rewarded for his bravery by being awarded a medal, and he has been the subject of a number of TV documentaries. 62. Which of the following does the passage NOT discuss?
