15、 After breakfast Martha went to visit her mother for the day. Mary felt lonely in the house without her so she went outside into the bright sunshine. She ran round and round the fountain and soon she started to feel better. Ben Weatherstaff was in the vegetable garden. He didn’t look cross that day so she went to speak to him.
“The spring’s coming,” he said to her. “Can you see those green points in the earth?”

Mary looked at the key for a long time. Then she put it in her pocket and walked back to her room.
The next morning Martha was there as usual. She told Mary about her day at her mother’s house.
She brought a skipping rope as a present to Mary. Mary was not good at skipping at first. But she tried and tried and soon she didn’t want to stop.
The sun was shining and the sky was blue. Mary skipped and counted and counted and skipped around the big garden. She decided to skip along her favourite path outside the walled gardens. It was very long and she had to stop before she arrived at the end of it because she was tired.
Then she saw the robin sitting on a long branch of the ivy on the wall. He chirped. Mary went up to him.

16、There are many unusual hotels around the world. In Greenland(格陵兰岛), there is a hotel made of ice, open between December and April every year. In Turkey(土耳其), there is a cave(岩洞) hotel with a television, furniture, and a bathroom in each room. And in Bolivia(玻利维亚), there is a hotel named the Salt Palace Hotel.
Thousands of years ago, the area around the Salt Palace Hotel was a large lake. But today, the area has only two small lakes and two salt deserts(荒漠).

18、According to the studies from the UN, the increase of CO2in the air is responsible for 85% of the temperature increase. CO2goes into the air when we burn fossil fuels to run our industries, cars and so on. Luckily, half of the CO2that we produced is taken in by plants, trees, land and the oceans. The rest gases are still large to cause worry. At the same time, we are cutting down forests that take in carbon from the air.
To solve the problem is not an easy job. Developed nations such as the USA, Germany and Australia will have to promise to cut down greenhouse gases by as much as 25-40%.
