On maintaining trust
The word trust is usually associated with a well-organized society,which exerts such tremendous influence on us that it can not only strengthen the interpersonal ties but it can bring about major changes to our lives. It invariably wins the love and admiration of others, for it adds an ingredient of believing to the salad of society in which people are growingly estranged with each other.
However, it is at its most commonplace （sth. is at its most commonplace表示某事物常见）that we are less credulous than we used to be. The absence of trust looms so large nowadays that no one can plead ignorance of it.(sth. looms so large that no one can plead ignorance of it表示“某某问题如此之突显以至于没有人会对此表示一无所知) Food pollution is the price we pay for this over-industrialized planet, which makes us dismayed and irritated every time we think we are eating poison-free grain, meat or dairy products. The excessively profitdriven businessmen manufacture and sell the gutter oil without being conscious that（sb. do sth. without being conscious that…表示”某人做某事没有意识到…”） this would bring enormous damage to our health;some seemingly(表示”表面上看起来“) magical and alluring（诱惑） advertisement turns out to be （turn out to be表示”结果是“往往表示一番经历后的感悟）misleading;though we, more often than not, extol the virtues of （extol the virtues of高度赞扬某物或人的优点）an eminent（杰出的） scholar, who, at some dramatic moment of his life（在人生的某个戏剧化时刻）, ruins（毁掉） his academic life as well as our trust and respect towards him because of plagiarism. Once the skyscraper of trust collapses, we will undertake a more ardumous journey to rebuild it and we are not sure whether or when we can achieve it. Why people are prepared to run the risk of losing our precious trust for the dubious privilege of meteoric fortune and fame（the meteoric fame and fortune 如流星般转瞬即逝的名和利） is quite beyond me.（我是无法理解的）
All we can do now is develop mutual trust, which is conducive to the harmony of the society. Only by this way can we improve the understanding of and communication with others. The more deeply we get to know each other, the less we are likely to have conflicts and frictions with them. All in all, we are expected to prevent trust from becoming golden memory.
