Unit 1 It’s wasteful to throw away paper and metal.
■ Warm up by having some environmental education.
Good morning, class. Today we shall “Save our world”. But first let’s save our school. Let’s save our city. Why? Because the classroom is dirty. Because the city is polluted. Because the water is running out.
What other environmental problems do we have? Could you point out any more of them? What can we do to save our school? What can we do to save our city? What can we do to save our world?
■Listen and read.
On page 42 is a conversation among Lingling, Betty, Daming and Tony. They are talking about environmental problems.
Before we listen to and read loud it, let’s go on to read it first. While reading, try to: cut/ the sentence into thought groups, study the predicative, darken the connectives and underline all the useful expressions. (阅读过程中,断开/意群,观察谓语构成,圈出连词,摘录短语搭配。)

■ Act out the conversation.
In groups of four try to learn the conversation by heart and act it out. The group with the best pronunciation, the best intonation and the best performances will be given five copies of the latest Readers made of recycled paper.
■Talk as they do. (仿说)
Now in groups we shall try to say something about the environment. We shall talk as they talked just now.
■Close down by asking and answering “The environment and you” conversation questions.

3. Does your school offer a recycling program?

5. How often do you throw gum wrappers, cigarette butts, etc. onto the street?

10. What is the one most important thing you will do to help the environment?
Unit 2 Remember three words: Reduce, reuse and recycle.
■ Warm up by finding out environmental problems.
Hello, class. How green is your home? How green is our school? How green is our city? What environmental problems do we have at our home, in our school and in our city? Now look around and think hard to make a list of all the environmental problems.

3. The ground is sinking.
4. The natural resources are wasted.
5. The reusable things are thrown away.
6. The air is polluted.
7. The wildlife is gone.
■ Read the passage and complete the table.
Read the passage on page 44 and page 45.
