Good morning, class. Today we shall “Save our world”. But first let’s save our school. Let’s save our city. Why? Because the classroom is dirty. Because the city is polluted. Because the water is running out. What other environmental problems do we have? Could you point out any more of them? What can we do to save our school? What can we do to save our city? What can we do to save our world? ■Listen and read. On page 42 is a conversation among Lingling, Betty, Daming and Tony. They are talking about environmental problems. Before we listen to and read loud it, let’s go on to read it first. While reading, try to: cut/ the sentence into thought groups, study the predicative, darken the connectives and underline all the useful expressions. (阅读过程中,断开/意群,观察谓语构成,圈出连词,摘录短语搭配。) Useful expressions (有用的短语搭配) get an email from…, a reader of…, see an online magazine, do one’s homework on…, read someone’s article, write about…, at a green school, be careful about the environment, in fact, throw away…, collect reusable waste, sell… for recycling, raise money, help students in poor areas, at school, at home, save energy and recycle, turn lights off, waste electricity, think about…, protect the air and the oceans, help save our world, ask…to write… ■Find all the words with suffixes and prefixes in the conversation. In the conversation there are examples of words with suffixes and prefixes. Now Find them and make a list of them. Words with common suffixes email, enjoyable, environmental, education, agree, reusable, recycle… Words with common prefixes reader, enjoyable, environmental, education, careful, environment, wasteful, reusable, electricity, hopeful, pollution, hopeless ■ Act out the conversation. In groups of four try to learn the conversation by heart and act it out. The group with the best pronunciation, the best intonation and the best performances will be given five copies of the latest Readers made of recycled paper. ■Talk as they do. (仿说) Now in groups we shall try to say something about the environment. We shall talk as they talked just now. ■Close down by asking and answering “The environment and you” conversation questions. 1. Do you turn off the water when you brush your teeth? 2. How often do your parents drive? 3. Does your school offer a recycling program? 4. Do you think recycling is an important service for cities to provide? 5. How often do you throw gum wrappers, cigarette butts, etc. onto the street? 6. What types of energy are popular in your city? 7. What green energy can we use? 8. What energy does your house or apartment use? 9. In your opinion, what can cities like Beijing and Taiyuan do to improve their air quality? 10. What is the one most important thing you will do to help the environment? Unit 2 Remember three words: Reduce, reuse and recycle. ■ Warm up by finding out environmental problems. Hello, class. How green is your home? How green is our school? How green is our city? What environmental problems do we have at our home, in our school and in our city? Now look around and think hard to make a list of all the environmental problems. 1. The Natural wonders are disappearing. 2. The temperature is rising. 3. The ground is sinking. 4. The natural resources are wasted. 5. The reusable things are thrown away. 6. The air is polluted. 7. The wildlife is gone. ■ Read the passage and complete the table. Read the passage on page 44 and page 45. While reading, try to: cut/ the sentence into thought groups, study the predicative, darken the connectives and underline all the useful expressions. (阅读过程中,断开/意群,观察谓语构成,圈出连词,摘录短语搭配。) Useful expressions (有用的短语搭配) care about…, protect the environment, save energy, try the questions, walk to school, ride a bike to school, buy new clothes, the latest fashions, open a window, instead of…, turn on air conditioning, buy things, be produced locally, be made abroad, take one’s own cloth bag, use plastic bags, sort the waste, throw…away, need a healthy environment, produce waste, every day, do harm to…, do something to help, in fact, even the simplest everyday activities, make a real difference to…, some ideas for…, use less, waste things, save money, reduce pollution, go into the environment, buy something new, think whether…, really necessary, the old one, be just as good, choose local products, if possible, try not to do something, buy too many…, from abroad, use again, use…for as long as possible, make sure that…, last a long time, look after…, repair…, instead of, throw… away, use a paper cup, a paper bag, use a china cup and a lunch box, change…into something else, take energy to do something, throw…away, burn…, find out…, in one’s neighbourhood, take part in…, a recycling programme, buy products made from recycled materials, recycled paper, help save trees ■ Turn the text into a conversation and act it out. A: How green are you? B: What do you mean by that? C: He means that “How careful are you of the environment?” … ■ Write as they do. (仿写) How green are you? Do you protect your home, your school, your city and your only earth? Try these questions and see. … Unit 3 Language in use ■ Warm up by doing the language practice. Hello, class. Turn to page 46. Read and study the five sentences in the box at the top of the page. Pay attention to the words in black. When are you going to write about environmental education? If we don’t, the future is hopeless. It’s wasteful to throw away paper and metal. Reuse means “Use again”. Every class collects reusable waste. Now make sentences similar to these. 1. When are you going to write about literature education? 2. If we don’t, the future is brightless. 3. It’s wrong to throw away paper and metal. 4. Reread means “Read again”. 5. Every class collects recyclable waste. ■Turn the passages into a conversation. On page 45 and page 46 there are three short passages. Now in groups of four try to turn them into three conversations. Act them out if time permits. ■Read Around the world. Turn to page 49. Let’s go on to travel around the world by reading a short passage entitled Environmental groups. While reading, try to: cut/ the sentence into thought groups, study the predicative, darken the connectives and underline all the useful expressions.
