Part One Introduction
1.1 Objects
The Social Networking[1], which is a medium that connect people who are unknown between each other through the Internet , construct a public or semi-public profile within a bounded system, articulate a list of other users with whom they share a connection or view and traverse their list of connections and those made by others within the system. It has become more and more popular in current days. A social network is a social structure made up of individuals, which are connected by one or more specific types of interdependency, such as friendship, kinship, common interest, financial exchange, dislike, sexual relationships, or relationships of beliefs, knowledge or prestige. People through these new communicating sites can find other people with same hobbies, dislikes and ideals, and gradually form a group that has definite features.
So, Netglish which is an outcome of the combination between the development of Internet technology and the English language in social networking sites plays an important role in people ’s daily communication and information transfer.
1.2 Motivations
The use of computers as a medium of communication has given birth to a new language phenomenon--cyber language, whose appearance provided us with an opportunity to futher study the evolution of language at large and the effect of medium on language use in specific circumstance.With the new business such as Web 2.0 putting into practice, social network is becoming more and more popular depending on its properties of authenticity and stability, and it is also playing a very important role in the Web developments.
In an effort to present a better understanding of communicative language in social networking,its features and its functions, thereby helping to find ways to develop communication competence and achieve effective communication, this thesis carries out an exploratory study of the grammatical and pragmatic use of Emglish in social network.
1.3 Rationale and Literature Review
1.3.1 Previous study on Netglish in Social Network
With the Internet irresistibly surging into human’s life, a new variety of language- cyber language-has gradually taken its shapes in cyber space. According to some linguists, cyber language can be defined into two ways----one in a broad way or one in a narrow way. In the broad way, the cyber language refers to all words and phrases relating to the Internet and electronic technology. In a narrow way, it is considered as the language style only using in the computer-based communication by network citizens.
1.3.2 A Brief Review of the Development of Chinese Social Websites
According to the statistic by SEO(Search Engine Optimization), during 20 years’ development, the number of Chinese netizens is up to 420 million people. Over 80% percent of them have the experience of using social networking sites or have published article on forum, blog and microblogs.
In 1990s, WWW (World Wide Web) come into Chinese people’s life. And people can scan information all over the world through the IE browser. At that time , the door of the world open to all netizens in China.
In 1998, MaHuaTeng and his college classmate ZhangZhiDong was registered formally shenzhen tencent computer systems Co., LTD. And QQ becomes currently the most common instant messaging software in China. Why QQ can stand out from so many Online instant messaging software, And eventually occupied 74 percent of the Online instant messaging software market in China? That is because that half was based on strength and the other half based on luck.
In 21st century, the Internet industry has come into a new age. The emergence of BBS, Blog and even SNS (social networking service) have bring Chinese Internet market a lot of development space.
1.4 Methodology
1.4.1 Features of Netglish on Social Network
Language is the product of Times. As the development of society and technology, the style and words of language is changing, springing up lots of new words. First of all, Netglish must have the common features of English and need to satisfy the basic need of language regulation. Secondly, Netglish has its own personalities. Since Netglish is the production of Internet and electronic technology, it needs to fulfill the requirements of the Internet. It must be real-timed, optional, and also be very rapid on the Information Times. Thirdly, Netglish is a innovative language based on daily English. Internet provide most of the netizens a space to show their imagination and creativity. According to the latest census, because the majority of the netizens is youngsters, which fill with wisdom and creativity, they can express their talent and show their language invention by using some metaphor, personification, homophonic and etc. The last but not the least, is that Netglish tend to use elliptical sentence. Especially when netizens talking in a chat room, they often would like to leave out the subject, in order to type some characters faster and to save time.
1.4.2 The principle of the Netglish on Social Network
As the Netglish is an international language that is based on English, it must follow the common rule of language. Language is using to express people’s ideal, which means no matter how the language change its style, it must let people to understand the meaning and ideal under the language. Although netizens like to leave out some words when communicating on the Internet to show their talent and fashionable, but if the other people who is talking with you don’t understand what you means, that will be so embarrassed and meaningless to build any relationship between you and him or her. In contrary, Netglish pursue terse talking style. You must represent your ideal in less words as possible as you can, and at the same time, you must let people understand you well. If you can do them both, you have become a senior nitizen.
1.4.3 Criterion of Data Collection
In order to study the language style of social networking sites, we need to collect data from these websites according to some rules.
Firstly, we should find some sentences that is very symbolic. Fox example, we can find the greeting style that people commonly used, or some private Email contents. Secondly, we can find some personalized sentences that are the typical way of communicating on the social networking sites.
1.4.3 Collection of Data
The data of this paper is collected from some famous social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, RenRen and QQ. As the online social networking tools, these websites serves as a platform on which students present themselves to others while maintaining and building their social ties. Due to the varied functions of this platform, its language displays many features.
1.5 Theoretical Frameworks
The thesis is going to analyze the Netglish features and functions of the social networking site, so it can divide into four parts.
The first part introduce the objection and motivation of the thesis ,the Rationale and literature review of the thesis and the study method of the thesis.
The second part illustrate the main feature of discourse in social website from the the four aspects, which include the development of the social network, lexical style,sentence style and speech style of Netglish on social networking sites.
The third part declare the functions of discourse on social website from four perspectives that have sharing information function, electronic commerce function, multimedia entertainment function and the information transfer tools for government.
The last part is about conclusion that state the findings ,significance and limitation of the thesis.

If the world's largest social networking site (Facebook) were a country, he ranked third in the population of the world, after China and India. The number of active members in Facebook has been over half a billion, which means that one out of fourteen people is the user of Facebook.
With the new business such as Web 2.0 putting into practice, social network is becoming more and more popular depending on its properties of authenticity and stability, and it is also playing a very important role in the Web developments. And we can see that more and more social networking sites have got large success.
