that是历年高考中出现频率比较高的单词。下面对that的各种用法进行归纳。
一.that作指示代词或不定代词。
that作指示代词，指代前面提到的物或事。That作不定代词，代替“the + 不可数名词”或“the + 单数可数名词”。it指同一物；one 泛指；the one 指同一类，非同一物。

二．that作副词
that作副词用，相当于so ,（that much = so much，that cold a day = so cold a day）。但在so …that结构中，一般不用that替换so。

三．that引导定语从句
that引导定语从句时，可以作关系代词，在定语从句中作主语.宾语或表语。作关系代词时，不用在非限制性定语从句中，不能直接放在定语从句的介词后。但in that = because。常用that引导的定语从句来修饰anything, nothing, all, much, no one, everything等不定代词或用来修饰被形容词最高级.序数词所修饰的名词或用来修饰被any, the only, the same等修饰的名词. that一般与which , as一起出现在选项中。Which 引导的定语从句放在主句后;as引导的定语从句可放主句前.主句后或插入主句中,表示顺接关系,常作系表结构的主语.

that引导定语从句时，有时作关系副词，修饰the way（the way that = the way in which），the reason（the reason that = the reason why / for which），the first time ，the place（the place that = the place where / in which）等。that常省略。

四．that引导名词从句
that引导主语从句，常用在It is …that…结构中。That一般不省略。that不担当句子成分，不含疑问，没有词义。

五．that用于强调句
强调句式： It is / was + 被强调部分 + that … 。强调人时，that可以换成who/whom 。
