By Zeng Jie I Teaching material: 1a-2b of Unit7, Grade 8(I), Go for it II Teaching aids: multi-media and some real objects III Teaching approaches: task-based language teaching approach, real objects teaching approach. IV Learning goals 1. Knowledge goals Students can describe the process of making things and use Imperatives. Language goals: Describe a process Following instructions Target language: How do you make a banana milk shake? First, peel the bananas and cut them up. How many bananas do we need? We need three bananas. How much yogurt do we need? Structures: Imperatives Countable/Uncountable nouns How many/How much questions Learning strategies: Guessing, Sequencing Vocabulary: peel, pour, put, amount, blender, milk shake, yogurt, watermelon, ingredient, teaspoon, cup, turn on, cut up, mix up, how much, how many, Recycling: apple, banana, orange, milk, drink 2 Cognitive goals Students can tell the countable nouns from the uncountable nouns. Students can use “how many”, “how much” correctly. 3 Affective goals Students can cooperate with others and help each other in class. V Teaching emphases and difficulties 1 Tell the process of making things. 2 How to use “how much” and “how many” 3 Listening VI About the students The students have been learning English for more than one year. They can use simple everyday English to talk about the things around them. They are interested in learning new goal language and they enjoy taking part in different class activities. In this period, they can watch the beautiful pictures on the screen, listen to the conversations and make apple salad by themselves, so they will have great interest in it. VII Teaching procedures Step1 Warming-up 1 Enjoy a cartoon video about food to rise the students learning emotion. 2. Students answer these questions: What’s your favorite food? What’s your favorite drink? And play the game “changing” by asking and answering the two questions one by one. In this way, on one hand, the students can review the vocabulary about food and drink, which is the basic of learning this lesson.. On the other hand, the students’ learning motivation can be inspired. 3.Learn the theme word“milk shake” and what milk shake is. . Step2 Presentation 1. Watch the flash about how to make a banana milk shake. 2. In order to learn some of the new words, like ingredient, yoghurt, blender , and review some of the words the students have to master , the students should answer the question: What do we need to make a banana milk shake? 3.Read the words again and again to memorize them. 4. Students watch another flash about the process of making a banana milk shake and read the process and the phrases after the teacher. 5..Studens watch the teacher to make a banana milk shake and listen to the teacher ‘s explanation of the process of making a banana milk shake, and then say after the teacher. Step3 Practice Task 1: Let’s have a competition! Have a competition among teams. Students of each team tell the process one by one. Each student says one sentence. Then decide which team did the best. Task 2: Listening Talk about the ingredients and the amount. Then students listen to the conversations and fill in the two charts. Task 3: Do it yourself! Students work in groups. Discuss how to make banana salad. Then make banana salad within five minutes.. While they are making, ask them some questions. Step4 Summary Put the words and phrases in to the blank to form a short passage. Step5Homework: 1. Copy the new words. 2. Make a fruit salad for your parents to thank for their good care for you.
