Unit 3 This is my sister? 说课稿

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen,
Nice to meet you. It’s my great pleasure to be here interpreting my lesson. I’m Deng Xiaoyu from Jindong Middle School. Today I’ll introduce my designing of Section A, Unit three “This is my sister” in Go For it. My presentation consists of seven parts: Analysis of teaching materials; Analysis of the students; Teaching aims; Teaching methods and aids; Teaching procedures; Blackboard design; Reflection after designing.
Ⅰ. Analysis of the teaching materials (PPT3)
First, let me talk about the analysis of the teaching materials. This lesson is from Unit 3 of Grade 7(Section A), PEP. It’s a speaking and listening lesson. The main purpose of this lesson is to let students know the names of family members and learn to introduce the family members and friends. What the students will learn in this class plays an important part in daily life. And the topic of family is related to their life. So it is helpful to raise the students’ learning interests and it will be also helpful to improve their spoken English. The new pattern "Is this your sister?" is based on "Is this your pencil?" and the sentence "Who is this?" is developed from the one "What's this?". In the previous units, students have learnt about General Questions and Special Questions. They’ve also mastered certain basic skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. All the above lay the foundation for learning the sentence pattern “Is this/that …?” “Are these/those…?”
Ⅱ.Analysis of the students(PPT4)
Second, I want to talk something about the Ss.
Ss in Grade 7 are between 12 and 14 years old. They’re all active, curious and thirsty for knowledge; they also like showing off. They have a definite English learning motivation and the active learning attitude. They have the ability to complete tasks by cooperating with other students. But they their attention can be scattered easily. So, this lesson I plan to present the text through some activities, such as playing game, role-play game and so on, to strengthen Ss' interest and attention.
Ⅲ.The teaching aims(PPT5-6)
According to the Ss’ English level and the demands of the New Standard English, I divide my lesson objectives into three categories: knowledge objects, ability objects and moral objects.
a. Knowledge objects
To enable Ss to grasp new words and to use the target language.
b. Ability objects
Enable students learn how to introduce family members and identify people.
c. Emotional Objects:
To raise Ss’ interests in studying English. Improve the relationship between Ss and family member, and strengthen Ss’ love to family member.
d. Important points and difficult points (PPT7)
Key Points:
Vocabulary: grandfather, grandmother, grandparents, mother, parents, brother, sister, friend, this, that, these, those
Sentence:
This is his sister.
That is his brother.
These are his parents.
Those are his grandparents.
Difficult Points:
(1)Correct usage of the pattern "These/Those are...".
(2)Awareness of plural nouns in English.
Ⅳ. Teaching methods and aids (PPT7)
Now let’s come to the teaching methods and aids
1. The Teaching Methods (PPT7)
a. Communicative teaching method
b. Audio-visual teaching method
c. Task-based teaching method
d. Situational approach
As we all know, the main instructional aims of learning English in the Middle School is to cultivate students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson I’ll mainly use Communicative teaching method, Audio-visual teaching method, Situational approach and Task-based teaching method to help achieve teaching goals.

Ⅴ.Teaching Procedures (PPT9-25)
OK, so much for the teaching methods and learning methods. Next comes my most important part, the teaching procedures. Based on Ss' psychological characteristics, I design the following five procedures.
Step1. Presentation (About 22 minutes)
1. Warming up(About 3 minutes)(PPT11)
First, I’ll make a greeting with the students: Hello, everyone! Nice to meet you! How are you today? After greeting, I’ll show some photos of my family and my friends on the screen. At the same time, introduce them one by one like this: This is my mother/father/sister…These are my friends/students…
Purpose of my designing: To attract the students’ attention and create a relaxed studying environment. At the same time, let students watch the photos, they also learn some new words father/mother…that we’ll learn in the following steps. They also learn the sentence pattern“ This is…”“These are…”
2. Vocabulary learning(About 8 minutes) (PPT12-18)
Let the students watch a video on the screen. I will Show a PPT with TV "Growing Pains" to show all the family member words as well as explain the relationship between them.
After watching video, I show the first picture on PPT.
T: What’s his name?
Ss: His name is Xia Yu.
Purpose of my designing: Review the word his and the sentence pattern“What’s your/his name?” in unit 1.
Then show other pictures one by one on the screen to learn new word.
T: Who’s this?
Ss: This is his sister…
T: Who are these/those?
Ss: These/Those are…
Purpose of my designing: Review adjective pronouns his/ your and the Special Questions; learn new words family, sister, brother, father, mother, grandmother, grandfather, friend and demonstratives pronouns this, these, that, those; let students “Learn to play, play to learn”, arouse students’ interest in vocabulary learning.
3. Play a guessing game. (About 8 minutes)(PPT19)
Next, I’ll play a guessing game. Show some pictures covered on the screen. Let students guess. This design aims to review the words learned in this class and master General Questions “Is this/that..?” “Are these/those…?” and arouse the students’interest in English learning by guessing game.
T: Is this…?
Ss: No, it isn’t. / Yes, it is.
T: Are these…?
Ss: No, they aren’t. /Yes, they are.
Purpose of my designing: Review the words learned in this class, master General Questions “Is this/that..?” “Are these/those…?” and arouse the students’interest in English learning by guessing game.
4. Complete 1a(About 3 minutes)(PPT20)
Next, ask the students to complete 1a, check the answer with them. This aims to help the students to understand the new words.
Step2. Listening (About 6minutes) (PPT21)
Above is the presentation of this lesson. Now, it’s time to do some listening. Before that, let Ss repeat the names of the family members together. Ask them listen and circle the words they hear. Check the answer.
Step3. Pair work and group work ( About 10 minutes) (PPT22)
Ask two students to read the conversation, then ask them to practice in groups like this:
A: This is my mother. ( Student A points to his family photo)
B: Is this his/her mother/grandmother…?(Ask other students)
Ss: Yes, it is. / No, it isn’t. (Other students answer the questions)
T: This is his mother/sister…
Let other students practice in pairs or in groups.
Purpose of my designing:
The students have a chance to practice their listening and spoken ability. At the same time, “Task-based” teaching method is used here to develop the students’ ability of communication
Step4. Familial Affection (About 5 minutes) (PPT23)
In my opinion, whatever we see or hear, we should learn something from them. So does the class. In this lesson, we teach the topic of family, after learning, it’ our duty to let Ss love their family, respect and thank their parents. In fact, I often hear my students complain about their parents this or that. So it’s necessary to educate them to get on well with their parents and love their family. Therefore, I found this moving video of family.
Purpose of my designing: Educate students to love their family, respect and thank their parents.
Step5. Homework(About 2 minutes)(PPT24)
T: After class, please
1. Remember the new words about family members.
2. Try to write a passage about your family.

These are the teaching processes of my lesson. Next, I’ll show you my blackboard designing. On the top I’ll write down the title“U3 This is my sister.” On the left side are the new words. I’ll show the sentence pattern on the right side of the blackboard.

Ⅶ. Reflection after designing (PPT26)
Finally, I’d like to say something about my reflections of designing.
In this lesson, I design tasks according to the New English curriculum criterion. I think it fits the New Curriculum Reform; and this class is rich in activities, especially the video design of PPT, which contributes a lot to attracting the students’ attention and stimulating their interest in learning; what satisfies me most is the last video—it matches the topic of family perfectly. More importantly, it educates students to love their family, respect and thank their parents. Of course, the length of time depends on the students’ reactions, so there may be a little adjustment in class.
