Newcastle is beginning to draw tourists from all corners of Europe. It’s one of the fastest developing cities in Britain. It is said that most visitors come here to see the well-known soccer team play. The feeling of the locals is often changed by the success or failure (失败) of the local team.
Newcastle’s most popular place is the Gate. It’s in the centre of the city and has many attractions including bars, restaurants, sports bars and so on. During a home game it becomes a real home to happiness.
Culture and local history lovers can make their dreams come true by taking one of the local city tour buses. They come and leave every few minutes and stop at all the important historical sites (历史遗迹) in the city. Also the seats and the environment on the buses are comfortable. It’s the best way to see the city without tiring yourself out or getting cold. Places such as the Hancock Museum and Millennium Bridge are must-see attractions. But be careful if you’re short of time, because Newcastle is a big place. So you should be prepared to kill a few hours on one of these buses.
If you want to watch the local team play soccer in the St. James Park, remember to book a ticket as early as possible. The locals are crazy soccer fans, and you’ll find it hard to get a ticket if you don’t wait in the line early.
As you can see, Newcastle is a fantastic city with so many things to see. You’re sure to have a wonderful time here!

Once upon a time, a princess needed saving. So, a prince came along to save her. After fighting against the evil witch (邪恶的女巫), they lived happily ever after. That’s the story we all know.
Yet, the TV show Once Upon a Time tells a different story. In it, Snow White and Prince Charming live together but life is not perfect. They live normal (普通的) lives. They argue (吵架), they eat lunch with friends, and evil wizards are still there. The Evil Queen sends them to the human world. She becomes the mayor (市长) of a new town and adopts (收养) a boy. And the boy turns out to be Snow White and Prince Charming’s grandson. Are you confused yet?
I thought the show was strange when I first watched it last year, but I quickly came to love the show. It tells the story of the fairy tale characters we know and love. It includes Tinker Bell, Peter Pan, and Red Riding Hood—as they fight against evil across different worlds, like Neverland and Oz.
I may not be a child anymore, but I found this show perfect for both teenagers and adults. Romantic stories and funny plots keep the whole family happy. That is what I call a happy ending.

During the 21st century there has been a great change in the lives of western women. A woman marrying at the end of the 19th century probably was in her middle 20s and would be likely to have seven or eight children. By the time the youngest child was 15, the mother would have been in her early 50s and would hope to live a further 20 years, and it was hard for her to get paid work.
Today women marry younger and have fewer children. Usually a woman’s youngest child will be 15 when she is 45 and she may live another 35 years and is likely to get paid work until 60.
This important change in women’s life has only recently begun to have its full effect (影响) on women’s economic position (经济地位). Even a few years ago most girls left school and took a full-time job. However, when they married they usually left work at once and never returned to it. Today the school-leaving age is 16, many girls stay at school after that age, and though women marry younger, more married women stay at work at least until shortly before their first child is born. And many more return to work later. Such changes have led to a new relationship (关系) in marriage, with the husband having a greater share of the duties of family life.
