Step I Lead-in
(show a picture) What are they doing? Before getting the job, what else should they do? What job requirements should an applicant meet? Let’s watch a video and pay attention to the job requirements.

Step II Vocabulary
(play a video) Do you think the man, Chris, can get the job? Why?
(add some more words to describe a person )
honest, humorous, outgoing, enthusiastic, energetic, active, aggressive, diligent, be good at communicating with others
Have the students conclude: these words can be used to describe personal qualities.
(turn to the following words)
从...毕业graduate from， 团结合作unite and cooperate，承担、从事undertake/ take on，不遗余力spare no effort，合作伙伴team player/ partner, 擅长于be good at/ be gifted at/ do well in, 做…没问题have no problem in doing, 拥有…学位have a degree/diploma in
Have the students conclude: these words can be used to describe education, experience and skills.

Step III Practice:
Have students describe themselves using the above words and expressions.
Translation
1).我毕业于湖南大学，拥有文学学位。 I graduate from Hunan University with a degree in Literature. / I am a fresh graduate from Hunan University with a diploma in Literature.
2).我擅长英语，并能流利的用英语和他人交流。I’m gifted at English and can communicate with others fluently in English./ I have good fluency in English and have no problem communicating with others in English.
3).我是一个积极向上，充满活力的年轻人。我将不余遗力的为公司的发展做贡献。I am
an active and energetic young person. And I will spare no effort to make contributions to the development of the company.
4).我非常愿意承担辛苦的工作。并且我相信我将是一个非常不错的工作伙伴。I am
willing to take on the hard work and I believe I will be a good team player.

Step IV Structure
What should be referred to in a covering letter at the beginning, next, and at last? Have the students conclude:
Beginning: Say why you’re writing and where you saw the ad.
Body: Say why you’re suitable for the job. Introduce your educational background , experience, skills, and personal qualities linked to the requirements.
Ending: Say that you are available for an interview.
Divide the students into three groups and have them work in groups to think of some sentences for each part.

I am writing in response to your advertisement in the Local Daily for a Software Engineer. I believe I have the qualifications, experience and skills you are looking for.
I graduated from Jingnan University in 2008 with a diploma/degree in Computer Science. Since graduation, I have been working/serving as a software engineer for Hanyang Computers. I worked in the videophone division and developed software which can be used on mobile phones. I have learnt a lot in my present job, and now I want to further challenge myself by being part of the Yingzhong team. Yingzhong is one of the best software companies, and I want to help strengthen the company and develop software to compete with imports.
I am a team player and get along well with other people. I can also work on my own. I am honest and hard-working. I also have good fluency in English and have no problem in communicating with English speakers.
