Nettles读后感 Whether Affection Will Expire? With the technique of flashback, Alice Munro subtly illustrated the internal world of the narrator in Nettles, which is a mesmerizing world full of sweetness of the old-days’ affection as well as bitterness of the nowadays’ reality. Ultimately, the narrator gave up her trying to pick up their unfulfilled dream of childhood. Upon finishing reading the story, an actor’s line from the film Chungking Express suddenly occurs to me: “I don’t know when it begins that everything tends to have an expiry date。 Fishes will expire; canned meat will expire; even locker paper will expire。 I start wondering, whatever in the world does not expire? ” Back from the film, I begin to ponder over whether one’s affection will expire, too. I have encountered some kinds of expiry emotion before. That is not as complicate as the narrator' emotion in Nettles, but it could be a demonstration of one’s expired affection。 I am always a movie fever. My high school was filled with Harry Potter. The college entrance examination was just around the corner then, everybody seemed to be burning their bridges and preparing to conquer the exam or die there without going back. While, I was sort of absent from what I should be concentrate on, because of my longing movie。 The case was that the cinema was three hours’ train from our school, so I had to make a choice between wasting a day's time going to the cinema and catching up with my classmates tightly。 Finally, I managed to get rid of my strong intention of watching Harry. However, the most interesting part of this memory was after my exam, when I got the time and energy to watch my dream film, I lost my desire. Namely, my affection for the movie was expired. The fallacy of life is that we can never go back to the time we miss most, so we are doomed to recall the past again and again。 This is not only happening on me, not only with my movie。 I have read a great deal of articles before, based on true stories or not。 Those youngsters in stories were fond of their lovers from the inside to the outside at the beginning. They believed so firmly in their relationships; they dreamed of standing side by side in the wedding church; they hoped for an outdoor picnic with their own kids. Whereas, frustrating things were like iron chains fettering them, and troubles were like surprises keeping come and go。 Subject to far distance, or family bound, or disasters and diseases, those couples and lovers hardly achieved their dreams of growing old together。 Their solemn pledges of love cannot even withstand a tiny strike of the cold reality. Therefore, some people said," there is nothing stays the same in the world and love is not the feelings that can be ringed by a ring, not a promise that can ensure the aging together by getting married” The statement seems to be a little passive。 Sometimes I believe the words “now or never”, which should be set as a principle of our lives, I thought. As our feelings keep changing along with the big river of time, there are so many things that if not done today, we may miss it forever。 All in all, I was somehow persuaded that the affection of human will expire。 Nevertheless, my point of view has a dramatic shift after I think over the story Nettles again. The heroine of Nettles fell in love with Mike at an early age。 While seeing each other years after, the zeal in her heart set out a fire, which pushed her into a sort of embarrassment. On one hand, she was eager to check out if Mike would give a response to her zeal. On the other hand, she was afraid of failing her life again or ruining Mike’s family。 Stuck in such an uncomfortable situation, a storm occurred to enlighten her and led her back to normal. Her feeling towards Mike was not changed by the time, but things around them changed。 If I were the heroine, what should I supposed to do? The intangible gab between them was never going to be crossed. If I were the heroine, I have to give up, too。 But that kind of giving up is not the same as somebody who quits smoking or someone who gives up a big exam; it should be much harder. Traumatic but imperative, the heroine had to bury her innermost feelings toward Mike。 From this perspective, we can’t say it for sure that their love had expired, because they were not allowed choosing to love each other freely under such burden as family. Two real stories concerning our topic suddenly occur to me. Lin Huiyin, a combination of beauty and wisdom, was loved by three men in her lifetime. One of the men is called Jin Yuelin, who admire Lin’ personality and brilliance so much that he kept unmarried and living nearby Lin the whole of his life。 This is what most people are seeking for all their life— an eternal lovingness, a kind of emotion that never expire。 The other story is related with a talented woman, too. It is without doubt that poets are always romantic. My favored poetess Echo married a diving engineer Jose from Spain。 I would like to call her “a poetess” because I regard her works as well as her life as a piece of fascinating poem. The couple led a simple, happy and peaceful life for several years until Jose died while working underwater。 Failed in getting rid of the tragic death of husband, Echo finally killed herself in the hospital. I have read her article Never Flowers in Never Dreams several times, and felt the same sadness each time when I read, mainly because that article was written after the death of Jose。 Whether Jin Yuelin or Echo, they seem to love their destined person forever。 Therefore, it comes to me that true love is never going to expire。 Only those short enduring emotion will fade as time goes by.
