Unit 2 growing pains

1. Normal greetings.
2. Lead in (3-5minutes)
T: We had an exam on Sunday, right?
S: Yes.
T: How did you do in your recent exams?
S: Not very good.
T: Maybe your scores are not very good.
If your parents know that you didn’t do well in the exam,

Do you want to be understood by your parents?
S: Yes.
T: What will you do to make your parents understand you? S: …
T: Most of you want to be understood by your parents. But it is not easy for you to make them always understand you.
Here we have two letters from a son and his father. The letters are talking about some trouble between them. Let’s look at the letters on page 38, try to find out the trouble between them.
3. Letters (10-15minutes)
(1) Listen to the first the letter, and try to find out the answers to following questions: ☆ Why does the father the letter?

(2) Listen to the second letter, and then answer these questions.

4. Group work:
T: In a word, the father and the son can’t get on well. They don’t understand each other. Imagine you are editors of the magazine, what advice will give them?
Group work: (divide the whole class into 16 groups)
Topic: 1-8groups give the father some advice,
9-16 groups give the son some advice.
Tips: Different persons have different work to do. make sure everyone in your group have different work to do:

(1) Preparing: some materials from the Internet.
(2) Producing:
T: before reading your letters, you should read it carefully. And make sure all of you agree on it.
(3) Presenting. Read the letters before class. Prepare for the questions
your classmates may ask.

5. Summary:
Ask one or two students to summary the communication between parents and children.
6. Homework: write down the advice letter in your exercise book.
