23、pe 98HM).When the pressureincreases beyond the spring setting,the diaphragmpressure overcomes the spring compression.Thiscauses the valve plug to move away from the orifice.The flow line through the valve is open and excesspressure is vented.When upstream pressure dropsback to normal,the valve resum
24、es its closed position.InstallationPersonal injury or system damage mayresult if this relief valve/backpressureregulator is installed where serviceconditions could exceed the limitsgiven on the Specifications sectionor regulator nameplate.Installationsshould be adequately protected fromphysical dama

38、on body materialsand temperatures.See the Specifications sectionfor the maximum inlet pressure of the valve.Thevalve should be inspected for damage after anyoverpressure condition.Ventslf using a Type 98L,98H,or 98HMBackpressure Regulator or Relief Valveon hazardous or flammable gas seryice,personal
39、 injury and property damagecould occur due to fi re or exolosion ofvented gas that may have accumulated,To prevent such injury or damage.provide piping or tubing to vent the gasto a safe,well-ventilated area.Also,whenventing a hazardous gas,the piping ortubing should be located far enoughaway from a
40、ny buildings or windows soto not create a further hazard,and thevent opening should be protected againstanything that could clog it.lf remote venting is necessary,an opt onal tapped ventin the spring case is available.Install remote vent linesin the spring case and outlet openings The vent linesmust
41、 have the largest practical diameter and be as shortas possible with a minimum number of bends or elbows.StartupKey numbers are shown in Figures 3 through 5.Withproper installation completed and system equipmentproperly adjusted,close any vent valves,and slowlyopen the upstream shutoff valve while u
42、sing pressuregauges to monitor pressure.lf set pressure adjustment is necessary,monitor theinlet pressure with a gauge during the adjustmentprocedure.Loosen the locknut(key 17),and turnthe adjusting screw(key 6)clockwise to increase orcounterclockwise to decrease the backoressure/reliefpressure sett
43、ing.AdjustmentEach unit is factory set for the pressure specified onyour order.The allowable spring range is stampedon the nameplate.lf a pressure setting beyond theindicated range is required,substitute the appropriatespring.Be sure to label the valve to indicate the newpressure range.Always use a
44、pressure gauge to monitor pressurewhen making adjustments.All regulator springs can be backed off to 0 psig(0 bar).Recommended set pressure ranges available,maximum inlet pressures and temperatures,andcolor codes of the respective springs are shown in theSoecifications section and Tables I and 2.Loo
45、sen the locknut(key 17).To increase the setting,turn the adjusting screw(key 15)clockwise.Turn theadjusting screw counterclockwise to decrease thesetting.Tighten the locknut.ShutdownC ose the uostream shutoff vaive,and release all!.essure from the backpressure regulator/relief valve.MaintenanceTo av
46、oid personal injury andequipment damage,isolate the valvefrom all pressure.Cautiously releasepressure from the valve beforeattempti ng disassembly.Due to normal wear and damage that may occur fromexternal sources,relief valve parts such as the O-rings,gaskets,diaphragm,orifice,and valve plug should
47、beinspected periodically and replaced as necessary.Thefrequency of inspection and replacement depends uponthe severity of service conditions or the requirements ofstate and federal lawslnstructions are given below for disassembly of theTypes 98L and 98H backpressure regulators/reliefvalves.These val
48、ves do not have to be removedfrom the pipeline to inspect internal parts.Suitablelubricants are indicated on the assembly drawings.Apply the lubricants as the relief valve is beingreassembled.Refer to Figures 3,4,and 5 whileservicing the relief valve.1.Relieve the spring tension by loosening the loc
49、knut(key 17)and turning the adjusting screw(key 15)辶Types gBL and 98H2,counterclockwise.Remove the cap screws(key 16).Lift off the spring case(key 2),spring(key 11),andupper spring seat(key 9).Lift out the diaphragm unit which includes the pusherpost(key 6),lower spring seat(key 8),diaphragm head(ke
50、y 25,Type 9BL),diaphragm(key 12),washer(key 7),and valve plug(key 4).(There will be two diaphragms if the diaphragmmaterial is metal or fluorocarbon(FKM).ForType 98HM two diaphragm is also required ifmaterial used is ethylenepropylene(EPR).)Check the orifice(key 3).lf it needs replacing orrepairing,
