expand“扩大,扩充,扩展”;stretch“伸展,舒展”;swing“摆动,摇动”;pull“拉,扯,拔”。
at the top of“在……
look around“四处环顾”。
walk away“走开”。

由空前的what role可知此处应用动词played与之搭配,构成短语play a role in,含义是“起作用,扮演角色”。故选B项。
2.A save“节省”;make“挣得,制作”;donate“捐赠”;receive“收到,得到”。 故选A项。
3.C 由第二段第7个空后的you were in law school可知,此处应用law表示“上法律学校”。
故选A项。
此时也可以用介词in,构成短语be buried in。故选D项。
6.C 由下面的问句以及第7个空后的I was more puzzled可知此处应用puzzled表示作者的困惑。amused“愉快的,开心的”;worried“担心的”;puzzled“迷惑的”;disappointed“失望的”。故选C项。
7.B 由空前的“Why were you doing what I do—memorizing textbooks and studying...”
8.D must“必须,一定”;ought to“应该”;need“需要”;could“能够”。
9.A ring“回响”,常与in one's ears搭配,表示“在耳边响起”;blow“吹”;fall“摔倒,跌落”;beat“击败,击打”。根据空后的in my ears可知ringing为最佳答案。
10.C choice“选择”;chance“机会”;challenge“挑战”;change“变化”。
12.B in danger“处于危险中”;in action“在积极活动中,在运转中”;in trouble“处于困境”;in charge“负责,掌管”。
weak“虚弱的”;powerful“强大的”;youthful“年轻的,富于青春活力的”;empty“空的”。故选C项。
14.D come back“回来”;close down“停业,关闭”;go by“(时间)过去,经过”;open up“开启,开创”。
15.A 由下文的seeing endless possibilities for personal and professional achievements可知此处应用hope表示“作者满怀希望去生活”。故选A项。
16.A constantly“不断地,始终如一地”;shortly“立刻,马上”;hardly“几乎不”;nearly“几乎”。 故选A项。
18.B description“描述”;statement“陈述”;praise“赞美,表扬”;introduction“介绍”。
19.D secretly“秘密地”;curiously“好奇地”;carelessly“粗心地”;eagerly“热切地,渴望地”。
20.A 由上文的You did it. 故选A项。

4.C 根据前面提到的“I heard him saying to the nurse that he was in a hurry for an appointment at 9∶30.”
turn up“出现,露面”;show off“卖弄,炫耀”;come on“加油,快点,得了,行了”;go away“离开,走掉”。
11.C 根据后文“...even though she doesn't know who you are?”
moved“感动的”;disappointed“失望的”;satisfied“满意的”。
14.D 根据后面“even though she doesn't know who you are?”
acceptance“接受,接纳”;agreement“同意,协议”;expression“表达,词句”;exhibition“展览,展出”。
completely“完全地,彻底地”;naturally“自然地”;frequently“频繁地,经常地”。
19.B 此处考查固定词组make the best/most of...,意思是“充分利用”。
