Use four famous inventions in ancient china lead into this class.

1. Look at the pictures and answer my questions.
Picture 1: T: What’s this in English?
Ss: It’s a computer.
Picture 2: T: What’s this in English?
Ss: It’s a car.
Picture 3: T: What’s this in English?
Ss: It’s a calculator
Picture 4: It’s a telephone.
Picture 5: It’s a TV set
2. Write the sentence “When was the computer invented?” on the blackboard. Ask the class to repeat the question.
T: When was the computer invented? / car / calculator/ telephone/ TV set.
Ss: It was invented in 1976 / 1885 / 1971 / 1876 / 1927.
Ask the Ss to repeat the conversation.
III. Good. Now answer my questions.
T: Which invention do you think is the oldest one?
Ss: I think It’s……
T: Which invention do you think is the newest one?
Ss: I think It’s……
3 Have students look at the example conversation in the box. Ask two students to read this conversation to the class. Have students read the conversation several times, Say. Now talk about the five inventions in groups, using the sample conversation as a model. Ask several groups to tell the class their answers.

I. Ask a student to say the name of the five inventions.
II. Say: We’ll listen to a girl and a woman talking about the five inventions. They will talk about when they were invented. Listen carefully and match the inventions with the dates. Write the correct letter in front of each date as the model, play the tape twice.

1. Ask a pair of students to read this conversation to the class

SB: It was invented in 1876
2. Get students to practice in pairs, using the information in Activity 1b.
