6.11.3green flow-through requirements
on any construction project, a chain of contracts ties all parties from the owner down to the lowest-tier subcontractor, as illustrated in Figure 6-1.

Flow-through clauses can be very important on green construction projects because, as noted previously, there is no set place where green requirements appear in the owner-contractor agreement, which includes not only general, supplemental, and special conditions of the contract, but also the drawings and specifications as well as addenda before contract award and change orders after contract award.

6.11.5 subcontractor green Submittals

in addition to the usual shop drawings, samples, product data, manufacturer's literature, and other submittals typically required, the subcontractor will need to make other submittals on a green building project.

in addition to submitting lists of materials, the contractor also needs to make sure that subcontractors know when the project requirements require them to submit material cost reports and receipts to show the percentage that a particular type of material, such as a regional material, is used on the job to meet green requirements.

chapter 5 covered design management for the contractor on green design-build projects. Green building projects may be design-build or involve a performance specification for a particular building system that requires the sub-contractor to perform design work.
