InternationalEvents Management THEi(hereafter called“the Institute”)is a higher education institution in Hong Kong dedicated to academic programmes and research in applied science and technology.With a strong focus on producing work-ready graduates,the Institute offers comprehensive programmes that equip students with the technical and academic knowledge necessary to meet the demands of industries in the region,including Hong Kong and cities in the Greater Bay Area(GBA).Our academic and applied programmes focus on six key areas,each crucial to driving regional development.These areas are 1)Digital construction,building services engineering,and aircraft engineering;2)Chinese medicinal pharmacy,food science and safety;3)Hotel operations management and culinary arts and management;4)Product,fashion and adverting design;5)Sports and recreation management,public relations and international events management,and 6)Horticulture and landscape management.In line with the ever-evolving digital landscape,the Institute ensures that digital skills,including information and communication technology and multimedia technology,are integrated into all of its programmes.Looking ahead,the Institute is committed to further developing its digital platform to support all its focus areas.By embracing digital innovation and integrating it into its programmes,the Institute aims to enhance the competitiveness of industries not only in Hong Kong but also in the Greater China region.To ensure the work-readiness of our students,the Institute prioritises practical industry training(known as“Work-Integrated Learning”)as a mandatory graduation component of all our undergraduate programmes.This training,lasting over three months,is facilitated by our esteemed industry partners and serves to deepen students understanding of real-world work skills and provide them with an opportunity to engage with practical applications before graduation.Furthermore,all the programmes offered by the Institute are accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications(HKCAAVQ),which reflects the alignment of our academic content with international standards,positioning our programmes on par with those offered by different universities worldwide.Aligned with our commitment to innovation and industry support,the Institute innovative mindset of our colleagues and students.One notable example is the launch of a start-up which focuses on producing hygienic pet food from food waste and which won awards in“Food Waste Institute of Hong Kong(THEi)received a cash donation from the Lions Clubs International District 303 Hong Kong&Macao,China(Lions Clubs)to support THEi students and graduates in nurturing and turning their entrepreneurial ideas into viable businesses.This donation marks Lions Clubs first time supporting enterprising start-ups in higher education.THEi-Lions Clubs Innov8 Enterprise Start-Up Centre launched“The First THEi-Lions Clubs Enterprise Start-Up Competition in April 2023.Two champion teams were selected from 80 applications.Each team can receive HKD 100,000 as start-up funding and participate in the Innov8 Entrepreneurship Incubation Programme,which allows the teams to learn from Innov8 mentors,develop business skills and establish business networks with industry and market leaders.The two champion teams are“Constance”and“Doctor Tree”.The two members of“Constance”,Miss WONG Yun Sum and Miss AU Tsz Ching,are THEis Bachelor of Science(Honours)in Chinese Medicinal Pharmacy students.They aim to become a provider of healthy and pollution-free Chinese herbal medicine by cultivating Chinese herbs using hydroponics and to ensure Chinese herbal medicine not to be contaminated by the heavy metals from the soil in a controlled environment.Per“Constance”,the yield per acre is much higher compared to traditional cultivation methods.Additionally,precise calculation of plant water usage can be achieved,and water can be recycled,contributing to sustainable development goals.Members of“Doctor Tree”are Mr CHOW Tsan Pang and Mr CHUNG Lap Yin from Bachelor of Science(Honours)inHorticulture,Arboriculture and Landscape Management in THEi and Mr Leonard LI,who studied economics in Taiwan.Their project uses big data,artificial intelligence,and drone technology 高科院學生和畢業生成立初創企業。此次捐贈是獅子會首次與院校合作的初創培育項目。高科院獅子會Innov8初創培育中心於2023年4月舉辦了第一屆高科院獅子會企業創科比賽。從80份意向申請選出兩支優勝隊伍，各隊可獲得10萬港元的創業資金，更可參加Innov8初創培育計劃，由Innov8創業導師提供引導，與行業和市場領袖取經和建立人際網絡。兩支優勝隊伍分別為Constance和樹木真美。Constance的成員是來自THEi高科院中藥藥劑學（榮譽）理學士課程的學生黃潤沁和區子晴，計劃目的是成為健康無污染中草藥供應者，以水耕方式種植中藥，在可控的環境下確保中藥不受泥土中的重金屬污染，且產量遠高於傳統種植方式，加上透過精準計算植物的用水量，並循環使用，達至可持續發展的目標。樹木真美的成員則來自THEi高科院園藝樹藝及園境管理（榮譽）理學士課程的周燦鵬和鍾立言，以及在台灣修讀經濟專業的李懷匡，計劃目的是利用大數據、人工智能及航拍科技，將樹木風險管理流程數字化。第一屆高科院 獅子會企業創科比賽The First THEi-Lions Clubs EnterpriseStart-Up CompetitionPartnerships and Connections 業界合作7Assistant Professor Dr.Vicky Leung investigated and developed how to utilizing food by-products in making pet snacks with two“Food Science and Safety”and“Culinary Arts and Management”graduates.Their start-up proposal won the third place in“Food Waste Movement 2022-Entrepreneurial Project Proposal Competition”.Food waste refers to organic waste generated in food processing,while food residues such as okara produced during food processing are called“food by-products”.The start-up aims to save food by-products that are not discarded as food waste,and ultimately reduce producing food waste.As the food processing industry generates numerous food by-products,the concept of entrepreneurship is applied to food waste collection and upcycling under the food waste management strategies.By engaging the industrial partners,the team collected the food by-products such as bone-in and oily corners and carried out the processing.The fat,bone and meat would be separated to make the corresponding products,and then air-dried/freeze-dried to produce the final pet products such as pet snack and sheep fat.THEi高科院廚藝管理課程助理教授梁翠恩博士與食品安全和廚藝及管理的畢業生李曉欣及何汶諺利 用廚餘進行製作寵物零食的創業方案，於2023年初獲得廚餘運動 2022-創業項目建議書比賽季軍。廚餘是指飲食過程所產生的有機廢棄物，而食品加工過程中所產生的食物殘餘物如豆渣則稱為食物副產品。創業目的旨在拯救未被丟棄淪為廚餘的食物副產品，最終減低廚餘產生。由於食品加工行業產生了大量的食物副產品，創業概念套用廚餘管理策略之中的廚餘收集和轉廢為材。透過與業界的關係，收集合作夥伴所贈予食物副產品，並將食物副產品例如帶骨附有油脂的邊角肉進行加工處理。將油脂、骨頭和肉分離，製作出相應產品，再進行風乾/冷凍乾燥等程序處理，最後產出適合寵物食用的製成品，如零食、羊油等。食物副產品 再生為寵物零食In 2023,THEis BSc(Honours)team of Chinese Medicine has been co-operating with Sheng Kung Hui Bishop Ho Ming Wah Secondary School,Chinese Medicine and Culture Research Center,Luzhiyuan Farm 66 and SmarTone HK to set up a 5G Hydroponic Chinese medicine cultivation park,monitoring the growth of Chinese herbal medicines in real time and collecting and analysing data by 5G technology.The Chinese medicines obtained from the park would be passed to THEi for efficacy analysis to improve planting methods and medical efficacy,thereby promoting the professional development of Chinese Connections 業界合作Hydroponic Traditional Chinese MedicineCultivation Project水耕中藥培植計劃5G8Turn“Food Waste”into“Pet Snacks”In 2022,THEis BEng(Hons)students worked together with CLP Group to promote its Distribution Box Beautification Project,extending across 14 districts in Kowloon,New Territories and the Outlying Islands.The art project was created with the aim to connect people with art and encourage a sense of community through a vision for a greener,more sustainable society.Students decorated CLPs distribution boxes with their own illustrations and designs,incorporating community icons and elements of environmentalism to bring a sense of vibrancy.Melding art with technology,the students also used Instagram filters to add an additional dimension of interactivity increasing creativity through cutting-edge technology.The public could simply scan a QR code on each CLP box to access a limited-time activation on Instagram.THEi 高科院數碼廣告(榮譽)文學士於2022年與中華電力有限公司(中電)合作推行配電箱美化計劃，涵蓋中電於九龍、新界及離島供電範圍內的14個區域，旨在將藝術與人和與社區聯繫起來，宣揚大眾對綠色社區及可持續發展的願景。這些藝術創作融合了社區地標和環保元素，透過獨特劃功及鮮豔色彩，為社區帶來活力。設計上，學生揉合了藝術和科技，以IG濾鏡特效增加互動元素，增強創意以及科技概念，公共人士只需掃描配電箱上的二維碼，便可以在智能手機及社交媒體平台上參與IG限時動態遊戲。Collaborate with HILTI,ATAL,Aurecon andChun Wo to pursue the BIM developmentCLP Distribution BoxBeautification Project與喜得利、安樂、澳昱冠、俊和合作推動BIM發展中電配電箱美化計劃THEi BEng(Hons)cooperated with one of leading industrial players Hilti(HK)Ltd to hold a 10-month programme named“BIM with Hilti”which received the Silver Award under BIM initiatives of HKIBIM Award in 2021.It was the second in 2022 and we were honoured to have ATAL Engineering Group(ATAL),Aurecon Group Pty.Ltd and Chun Wo Development Holding Limited participating in the programme.The programme is to help young engineers leverage the knowledge and skills gained from BIM with HILTI to improve their ability to integrate traditional methods with BIM in future projects and enhance collaboration among stakeholders to increase productivity.Through the use of Hiltis new software,students studying civil and building services engineering can learn and apply BIM on actual works.After working with the engineers on the programme,students were able to develop more application possibility.Also,students hadopportunity to work at the companies above as an intern to apply their knowledges in real practices in the
