为期两个半月的安徽省 年高中英语新课程远程培训----”高中英语—
—评好课” 活动已经顺利地落下了帷幕!
做了三年安徽省远程教育的辅导教师, 今年我的感触最多、 最爽。首先是广
大老师们对待”新课程远程培训”这一新的学习方式的态度的明显变化让人感到
欣慰! 不知不觉中多数老师已经由三年前的排斥乃至反感转变到现在的接受甚至
喜爱。大家激情洋溢的网上互动就是明证: 截止到10月15日, ”论坛”区的主
题帖共有 3957 篇, 帖子数共计15078 篇( 居各学科之首) ; ”文章”区学员
发表的有效文章多达 5433 篇; ”答疑”区学员们提出的各种问题更是达 12598
条之多!
其次, 老师们的评课议课水平有了显著地提升! 如果说学员们 年就蚌
埠二中朱曙光老师执教的How Life Began on the Earth一颗的课评是刚刚入门
的话, 那么今年老师们就青岛二中纪筠老师执教 Film Stars 所写的课评绝对是
中级或以上的水平。且不说大家就此话题有话可说----几乎所有的老师课评的篇
幅都远远多于300字, 大多数老师的课评既有理论支持, 又有实证依据; 既谈优
点, 又评不足。老师们的课评不拘一格: 或全面评点; 或从某一个或某几个角度
( 如导入、 教学设计、 学生活动、 教学效果、 教学语言等等等等) ; 或汉语点评,
或英文成稿……
为了进一步巩固今年远程教育的成果, 便于老师们相互学习、 共同提高, 我

Feelings after Watching th e Lesson Film
Stars

It's a great honor for me to have a chance enjoying such a good English
class taught by Miss Ji. As an English teacher, I can really feel it's
more and more difficult to design an English class very well. However,
Miss Ji makes it. I have many feelings after watching the English lesson
Film Star.
Firstly, the fluent verbal language and sweet intonation of Miss Ji
has left a much deep impression on me, which, in my opinion, moved her
students as well. She speaks English very gently and slowly to make the
students understand easily. Secondly, she used many good words to praise
her students such as right, good job, applause
closer to her students. Thirdly, the teaching procedure is clear and the
teaching tasks are perfectly given. She has a full understanding about
what her students need and like. For example, she used a short movie acted
by Macaulay Culkin to lead in and made students talk about the celebrities
Zhang Bozhi and Zhang Guorong they are interested in. At the same time,
the teacher actually played a good role of director to make her players
play very well. Especially in debate procedure students are made to argue
with their neighbors about they whether like or dislike celebrity. It’
s really amazing that the students did a very good job and made the class
more active and colorful. They speak English fluently and finish the tasks
intensively. Finally, the teacher always arranged her lesson around the
topic of Film Star. From the beginning she designed a best short film,
which motivated the students’ passion and interests of the class. The
teacher also cared about the language use and made her students use the
words, phrases, expressions and structures in the passage to talk about.
In the end, she actually point out her opinions about whether being a film
star is good or not in listening part. And in homework part she asked her
students to write about a life of one of the celebrities. All of the
teaching steps are connected with the topic.

In a word, I really appreciate the English lesson and learn form it .

My Comment on FILM STARS

It's a successful class. Task teaching method, as it has come to be
known, is more and more popular with Chinese teachers. What is a task?
A task is a piece of work undertaken for oneself or for others, freely
or some reward, Thus, examples of tasks include painting a fence, dressing
a child, filling out a form, buying a pair of shoes, making an airline
reservation, borrowing a library book, taking a driving test, typing a
letter, weighing a patient, sorting letters, reading a passage for some
information, discussing to get a common agreement, learning new words,
making up sentences using new words, writing an essay, etc. In other words,
by 'task' is meant the hundred and one things students do in everyday life,
at study, at play, and in between.
The highlight of this class is that the teacher centered on the task
of teaching method. At the beginning of the class, the teacher showed
students some pictures of film stars, presenting them some questions about
film stars. After students' answering these questions, students are asked
to find the suitable title for the passage, Obviously, the task to find
the main idea was designed deliberately in advance. Then, the teacher

asked the students to read the passage to find some details to fill the
form--- how to be a film star. With these task, the students discussed
in groups and exchanged their opinions. Meanwhile, the teacher helped some
groups of students to deal with some difficulties they met.
More importantly, the teacher employed the task method to improve
students' ability to communication. The students were required to explain
the new words and phrases in this passage, then the students were
encouraged to make up sentences to use these new words and phrases. It
is certain that a communication task is a piece of classroom work during
which learners' attention is principally focused on meaning rather than
form, that is, on what is being expressed rather than on the linguistic
forms used for expressing it.
As a whole, this class based on communication task method is superior
to traditional class that focused heavily on grammar teaching method.

In general, the class given by Miss Gi is an excellent one. What
impress me most are the teacher’s standard, fluent oral English and the
students’ active cooperation.
At the beginning of the class, the teacher asked some questions
related to the topic of the passage. Then the teacher showed a film clip
of home alone starred by a Hollywood film star---Macaulay Culkin. The
students were motivated greatly by it and they showed great interest in
the film stars. Through showing some other famous foreign film stars and
some questions, the teacher made the students wonder whether the film

stars lived a quite happy life or not. So they were eager to read the
related passage with some questions in mind. As far as I am concerned,
the warming-up and lead-in are arranged successfully. Given two minutes,
the students were required to skim the passage so as to choose the best
title from the three choices shown in the screen. It can practice the
students’ fast reading skills. Next procedure was careful-reading. The
teacher gave the students about 3 minutes to read the text carefully and
try to find the advantages and disadvantages of being a film star. Then
the teacher asked the students to fill in the blanks. During this period,
the students were very active to answer the questions. Moreover, the
teacher had the students listen to the tape and paraphrase some important
words or phrases from the context. After the listening, the teacher made
the students discuss one of homeland film stars through showing some
pictures. What counts most is that the students should try to use the words,
phrases, expressions and structures learned in the passage. It can
consolidate the knowledge they have just mastered. In the end, the
students’ interests were aroused by the fierce debate.
During the class, the teacher not only designs some exercises related
to the language knowledge, but also arranges some activities to develop
the listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities. One drawback of
the class, however, is that the teacher is a person who always asks
questions while students are demanded to answer various questions. The
teacher didn’t give the students any chance to ask questions, so the
students are passive to receive the knowledge in some way.

My comments on Miss Ji’s public
teaching show

After learning how to observe and assess a teaching class, we know
we do not only care about what and how a teacher teaches his or her students
but also we do care about the students’ activities and acquisition in
class.
When watching the video, I took notes about the aim of her each
teaching step and timed it. Now I can tell what I thought.
In the first step, Miss Ji showed part of a film to lead the class
into the topic of this period—talking about famous stars. Showing a film
as the lead-in of a period is a good way to arouse background knowledge
stored in studets’ mind.
In the second step, Miss Ji got students to read the period as fast
as they could to get the general idea of it in order to practise students’
fast reading skill. But Miss Ji gave students only about three minutes
to fulfill the task. I don’t think that’s enough because the passage
given to students is a little longer than what they could finished in three
minutes. This can be inferred from the students’slience to the teacher’s
question:

some students could chose the right answer, maybe they guessed it from
the title and the pictures. On the other hand, the choices were easy for
the students to distinguish them.
In the third step, Miss Ji had the students read the passage
intensively once again to find detailed information about the good and
bad things of famous stars’ life. Still, Miss Ji didn’t give the students
enough time to read it carefully. When she hurried the students to complete
the form, some students almost were at lost. One student chatted with his
deskmate and then he even yawned during this activity. Maybe he hadn’t
got enough sleep the night before or maybe he felt tired of this kind of
public class show.
In the forth step, Miss Ji asked the students to listen to the tape
and marked the words stressed in red on the screen. Then she got some
students to explain them in English and make some sentences with them.
But I doubt whether it is an effective way to help the students to master
the usage of those words. If teachers taught difficult language points
in this way every day, how can our students get high marks in examinations?
In the fifth step, Miss Ji played the tape for the students to listen
to in order to practise the students’ listening ability of grasping the

detailed information. It was a little easy for the students to grasp the
information of numbers.
To practise the students’ speaking ability, Miss Ji gave the students
some pictures of homeland famous stars in the sixth step. The students
were familiar with them so they commented one of them actively. This can
arouse their interest.
In order to stimulate the students’ desire of speaking, Miss Ji got
the students to debate about the topic whether it is good or bad to be
famous. But I saw just some students who were confident about their oral
English debating positively. And from the beginning to the ending , those
students dominated the class.
Generally speaking ,first, Miss Ji’s fluent oral English impressed me
deeply. Second, she did not only stress the input of target language but
highlight the output of the target language. Third, she can stimulate the
students’ desire of speaking skillfully and the interactions between
teacher and the students are active. This class is a relatively successful
one except for some faults.
