Reid tried to draw a sports car like Peter’s. But no pictures looked good. He hated them and threw them away.
“Is there a secret to being a good artist?” he felt sad and asked his teacher Mrs. Lee for help.
“Yes, of course.” said Mrs. Lee. “Draw that car again. No throwing away. Give it to me when you’re done. Then do a drawing every day. Don’t worry about how good the drawings are or throw them away. Hand in one picture to me each day for four weeks. Then I’ll tell you the secret.”
Reid did as the teacher told him.
One day, Reid started to feel like drawing more. “Is it OK to do more than one picture a day?” he asked. “Draw as much as you’d like,” said Mrs. Lee.
Finally, four weeks passed. “It’s time for the secret,” Mrs. Lee said, “But first I want you to do one more drawing.” Reid did. He showed it to Mrs. Lee when he finished. Mrs. Lee smiled and showed him the drawing he did the first day. Reid looked at the two pictures. What a difference! The new one wasn’t perfect, but it looked much more like Peter’s car.
“What’s the secret?” he asked.
“It’s practice! You drew every day, and look how much better your pictures got. If your work improved this much in four weeks, just think what’ll happen in three months or a year.”

You drive down the highway with your family or friends in the car, objects for camping and spare clothes packed in the back. Your windows are down and the wind is hitting you in the face. These are the makings of a classic US road trip.
Road trips are quite common in the country, especially during the Thanksgiving holiday, which is the busiest travel time of the year in the country for families and friends who want to get together.
And for students, going on a road trip is traditional after graduating from high school or college with their schoolmates. It usually includes traveling for long across the US and camping out whenever possible. Destinations (目旳地) are different depending on where someone is, but they all show the same kind of adventure. Disney World and Yellowstone National Park are in a dead hit for the most visited road trip destination.
However, the most famous of all road trip journeys is traveling across the US on Route 66. Route 66 begins in Chicago and ends in Los Angeles. The route goes past many of the lesser-known states. However, these are not the main places people visit. Instead, it’s the strange and wonderful small attractions (景点) that draw many road trippers to them. The attractions one sees on these trips are quite unusual and very difficult to explain to a non-American. They are filled with gas stations that look like those in the 1950s and small restaurants where you can eat a cheeseburger with a delicious milkshake.
Deep down, US road trips show the spirit of freedom and openness. The idea is that if you have a car, you have freedom to leave, to discover, to find yourself, to lose yourself. It’s a powerful call, one that is part of the US’ culture. It is a must-do for anyone who plans to spend time in the US to see the country and all of its wonders. An old saying — “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey” — best explains that the experience of a road trip truly offers.
76. The main idea of Paragraph 1 is ___________.
A. what people pack for a road trip B. whom people go with for a road trip
C. what a classic US road trip is like D. when people usually take a road trip
77. The underlined word “route” in Paragraph 4 most prob
