Facts About Trees
Trees are tall plants. Trees can live for thousands of years. Some trees can grow taller than 100 meters.
Trees produce oxygen（氧气）and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide（二氧
化碳）in the air. The roots of a tree usually grow underground. They help keep the tree stable and give it water and other important nutrients（养分）. Water and nutrients travel up the tree trunk, through the branches and all the way out to the leaves.
We can tell the age of a tree by growth rings in the wood.
Planting trees can help protect the environment. We can use wood from trees in a number of different ways, for example, building a house and making furniture（家俱）.

What Are Materials
Stone, metal, wood, paper, and cloth are materials. We use them every day.
Stone is a hard, heavy material. Most stones sink to the bottom of water. We get stone from the ground and from mountains. Stone does not bend（弯曲）, but it can be cut into shapes.
We get metal from stone. Metals are strong and difficult to break. They are usually shiny. Metals are hard like stone, but we can bend them and make them into different shapes.
Wood is a material from trees. Wood is a hard material, but it is not as hard as stone or metal. We can cut and shape wood with metal tools.
Paper is a soft material from plants. It is light and easy to bend and fold（折叠）.
Cloth is a soft material. There are different kinds of cloth. We make cloth from sheep’s wool, cotton, and silk. We use cloth to make many things like T-shirts and jeans.

Going to the Moon
Some day you may go to the moon. A tall rocket will take you into space. The rocket flies a long way to a space station. You will stop there for a short time. Then, a big spaceship will take you to the moon.
About three days later, the ship slowly goes down and gets to the moon. You are now on the moon, but you cannot leave you spaceship. You must put on a space suit for the moon. It is very hot in the day and very cold at night. If you don’t wear a space suit, you cannot live there. You jump out of the spaceship and begin to walk. The moon is much smaller than the earth. The things on the moon are lighter than those on the earth. You jump high in the air every time you take a step.
The moon moves slowly, so one day on the moon is as long as two weeks on the earth. It never rains on the moon, and everything on the moon is dry. There are no trees or other living things of any kind. There is nothing to do there. The earth is a far better place to live on, but scientists are trying to make the best use of the moon.

Time Traveler Will Leave Tomorrow

School Trip
