Narwhals（独角鲸）are one of the most beautiful animals living in the sea. They have the love of the world. But they are in danger for a very special reason: their own bodies. Scientists find that the narwhals are born with special feature（特点）.
One of their most special features is their pointy tusk（长牙）. It can grow up to 8.8 feet! Male narwhals have a bigger tusk while females have a smaller one.
Narwhals live in icy water and their skin can protect them from the cold. They spend winters in deep waters under ice, and then move to shallow ice-free waters for the summers, but never really go far from the ice. Unluckily, because of global warming, there is less ice for them to live by. If there is no ice for them to hide from danger, their enemies（敌人）can find them more easily.
When a narwhal finds danger and becomes afraid, it tries to swim away quickly. Bu its heart beats more slowly. It is very different from humans. When a human tries to run away from danger, their heart beats faster to have enough oxygen（氧气）in their body. So if narwhals run too fast, they may feel sick because of not having enough oxygen.
So why does this happen to a narwhal? Scientists need to study more about their body. But they are sure that human activities may make the situation worse.
When narwhals find another sea animal, they don’t feel afraid. But when they hear boats, humans, or machines, they are afraid and cannot stop swimming away. This is very dangerous for them. They also have to swim farther for safety because the ice keeps melting（融化）.

They were mostly children when Japanese invaders came to Nanjing, on Dec. 13, 1937 and spent six weeks killing about 300,000 Chinese people.
Eighty years later, survivors(幸存者) of the Nanjing Massacre（南京大屠杀）are at a very old age and the number of them is less than 100. In order to keep history, some people are running against time to record their memories.
"We felt sad when we heard the news that one survivor after another died," said Gao Xudong, a student at Nanjing University. "They are part of the city's history and we have to keep their memories."
In December, two books were published: one collecting testimonies(证据) of 49 survivors and the other introducing their lives after the killing. They have totally(总共) 1.2 million words. More than 50 people spent nearly six months having over 150 interviews for the two books.
"History is not only some cold numbers in books," said Zhang Sheng. "Every time we heard a survivor tell his or her story, we felt as if we went back to the terrible time again," he said. Many university students said these stories made them understand life and death, war and peace better.
