What helped Darwin lay a solid foundation for his later achievemen _______________________________________________________________________________ 【Show Time】展 1.In his book, Darwin ___________himself ______having been a rather "naughty" child. 在他的书里,达尔文描述自己曾经是一个“很不听话”的孩子。 describe sth /sb as…“把……描述成”,又如: They ___________the young man________ a hero. 他们把这位年轻人描述成一位英雄。 having been a rather "naughty" child.是V-ing形式的完成式,作介词as的宾语。又如: I am sorry for having wasted so much time. 我感到很懊悔,过去浪费了太多的时光。 He was punished for______________________. 他因杀死了那只狗而受到处罚。 2.____________________, Charles Darwin was a lazy young man, and a slow learner at school. 具有讽刺意义的是,达尔文是个懒惰的青年,学习也较笨。 Ironic as it may seem 是个让步状语从句,意义是“虽然……”,它的结构是“形容词/名词/动词(原形)+as+主语+动词”,又如: _______________________________________,it was finished in time. 尽管这次化学作业很难,还是及时完成了。 _____________________________,Toom could not get out of the difficulty. 虽然汤姆努力了,但他还是不能克服这个困难。 在该结构中,如果从句的表语是名词,其名词前不加任何冠词。例如: Child as he was,he had to make a living. 尽管他还是个孩子,他也得自己谋生。 3.He was a rather shy student but he did _______________________________________ ______________ his athletic skills to other schoolmates. 他是一个相当腼腆的学生,但他却非常喜欢在同学面前炫耀自己的体育才能。 句中的take(a)pleasure in doing sth 意思是“喜欢做……”、“以……为乐”,又如: He ______________________________teaching his little sister. 他以教他小妹妹学习为乐趣。 He seems to _______________________doing such things. 他好像喜欢做这样的事。 I _________________________________such things. 我不愿意做这样的事。 show off“炫耀(自己的能力、智慧、财富等)”、“吸引大家注意某人(某物)”,又如: The child danced round the room,______________ himself ___________to everyone. 这孩子在屋里蹦蹦跳跳的,以在众人面前炫耀。 She was_______________,her husband ___________at the party last night. 在昨天晚上的晚会上,她一直在炫耀她的丈夫。 4.Darwin's mother taught him how to change the color of flowers by giving them water __________________ ___________________. 达尔文的母亲教他如何用掺着食品着色剂的水改变花的颜色。 本句中的mixed with food coloring是过去分词短语作定语,修饰water. mix…with…意思是“把………与……混合起来”,又如: They _____________the caster oil __________water. 他们把蓖麻油和水混合起来。 Would you ________this kind of chemical _________the one I gave you? 你会把这种化学物质与我给你的那种混合在一起吗? 5.________ a young boy he delighted in collecting minerals, insects, stamps and other things. 他小时候 ,就对收集矿石标本、昆虫标本、邮票和其它东西等都有着浓厚的兴趣。 as在此句中是连词,相当于when.(As a yong boy=When he was still a young boy)又如: _______a young man,he joined the army. 他年轻的时候就参军了。 _______a child,he lived in the countryside. 当他还小的时候,他住在农村。 另外as也常用作介词,意为“作为……”,例如: _______a good student,you should help him at once. 作为一个好学生你应马上帮助他。 6.Darwin did not, however, put much study into these objects, but collected them _______________________________________________________it. 然而达尔文对这些东西并未认真研究,而只是出于兴趣而收集它们。 for the mere pleasure of…“仅仅是为了对……的兴趣”,又如: He collected many kinds of coins ________________________________it. 仅仅是出于兴趣,他收集了很多种硬币。 ____________________________________,I read one story every day. 只是出于阅读的兴趣,我每天读一个故事。 7.Because he was not paying attention to his studies his father even said that he "____________________ __________________shooting, dogs, and rat--catching." 由于他没有注意自己的学习,他父亲甚至说他“只喜欢射击、溜狗和捉老鼠,而不留意其他的事情。”‘ 句中的care for…是“喜欢……”、“关心……”的意思,又如: The man young_________________ new clothes very much.这个年轻人很喜欢新衣服。 The children_________ nothing but the cartoon on TV. 孩子们除了电视卡通片,什么都不喜欢。 句中的nothing but…“不外乎……”、“仅仅是……而已”,又如: He is _____________an assistant. 他仅仅是个助理而已。 I haven't told anybody but you. 除了你我没告诉任何人。 I never saw him reading _____________the newspaper. 除了报纸我从没看见他读过别的什么。 另外还有not…but…意思是“不是……而是……”,例如: She is not a singer but a student. 她不是歌手而是一个学生。 I do _______like swimming ___________skating. 我不喜欢游泳而是喜欢滑冰。 8.Darwin ____________________at the sight of blood. 达尔文一看见血就感到不舒服。 句中的be/feel sick(of sth)作“对……感到讨厌、厌烦”,又如: She _______________of seeing such kind of man. 她讨厌看到这种人。 It was a hot afternoon and I ____________lying in bed. 这是一个炎热的下午,我讨厌躺在床上。 at the sight of…意思是“一看见……”,例如: ____________________the police,they were greatly frightened. 一看见警察,他们就很害怕。 ____________________his father,the boy ran to him. 一看见他父亲,那个孩子就跑过去了。 9.…he wondered what his father ever _________that led him to think he would_______ a good doctor. 他弄不清楚他父究竟看中了他什么,而认为他能当一个好医生。 see sth in sb“觉得某人在某方面有吸引力”、“看中某人的……”,又如: I can't think what________________. 我认为他没有什么吸引她的地方。 本句中的to make作“成为……”解,后跟表示人的名词,这种情况下与become含义基本相同。又如: We don't think he will ____________a good teacher in the future. 我们认为他将来不会成为一个好老师的。 She said she would___________ a rich businessman. 她说她将成为一个富有的商人。 You can't ________________a good artist. 你不可能成为一个好的艺术家。 10.…that Darwin had developed a burning passion for natrual science and an ___________________for exploration. 达尔文已经产生对自然科学强烈的感情和对探险怀有无尽的热忱。 【Exercise】 练 Do the exercise on student’s workbook on page99. 【Record after learning 】课后反思 _______________________________________________________________________________ 5
