Chan told the media on Monday, “I was drunk and I feel ashamed.” Alex Fong, Chan's son, also apologized for his father's behavior and promised the media there would be no such things next time. However, on Wednesday, Chan denied that he was drunk. “I would call it excitement on stage. I only made some jokes with Lee, not a big deal,” he said. Lee also defended his friend Chan, saying there was no smell of alcohol in his breath. “He is a forthright person. We always use dirty words with each other in daily life but it is not right to say them in public,”Lee said. Actually, it was the second time that day that Chan disturbed an event. Guangzhoubased Information Times reported yesterday that at a TVB party, Chan criticized the Hong Kong public TV channel for keeping singers signed with the station from being interviewed by other media. Since Chan is Hong Kong's tourism ambassador, his gaffe on stage drew attention of the Hong Kong Tourism Board. A spokeswoman for the board said they had contacted Chan but he was on a business trip. She refused to comment on whether Chan's behavior had hurt Hong Kong's image. No complaints have received so far according to the Hong Kong Leisure and Cultural Service Department. 1.What did Jackie Chan do at Lee's concert according to this passage? A. He refused to admit that he was drunk. B. He was drunk and felt ashamed. C. He made some jokes with Lee. D. He said some dirty words. Jackie Chan's Story C. Excitement on Stage D. Jonathan Lee's Concert 答案与解析 A 主旨大意题。这篇文章主要是关于Chan在Lee的音乐会上讲了脏话而引发的一系列报道, A项最合文意。 4.The underlined word “gaffe” in the last paragraph means ________. A. an improper behaviour B. illtreatment C. an excellent performance D. an exciting remark 答案与解析 A 词义猜想题。依据语境可知gaffe指的是文章中心所叙述的大事,即此处意为“不当的行为”。 5.Where can we probably read this passage? A. In a science book. B. In a biography. C. In a newspaper. D. In a history book. 答案与解析 C 推理推断题。由文章的内容可知这是一篇新闻报道,由此推断应消灭在报纸上,故选C项。 B When you are talking to somebody at a party, do you focus entirely on the person you are speaking with or does your attention keep jumping around the room to all the other people there? Generally, if the person is someone you really want to talk to, you will focus on him. Most other people will only get about half of your attention. You may think that this is OK, because if you don't really want to talk to him, then what does it matter if you don't give him your full attention? Consider two things. First, you may just not realize the importance of that conversation. If you are at a networking meeting and you hope to meet the CEO of Company X, but you end up talking to someone who has a lowlevel job at a different company, then you may let your attention wander as you speak to him. But maybe you don't realize that this person has already met the CEO and could introduce you. Do you think he will do that if he feels you don't really care about speaking to him? This doesn't mean you need to spend the whole time talking to him. Five or ten minutes of real attentive conversation can be worth 30 minutes to an hour of partial attention. Second, whether you want to speak to someone is based on the situation. You can love your wife, but if she tries to talk to you while you are watching something you like on TV, where is your attention going? Make your own decision, but if you want her to feel valued, give her your 100% attention. The nice thing is that in many cases you can give her your attention for a few minutes and then return to what you are doing. You miss very little, she feels valued, and all is good. 6.The author's opinion is made believable mainly by ________. A.giving examples B.using figures C.asking questions D.description 答案与解析 A 推理推断题。依据第三段和第三段叙述的例子来支持自己的观点。 7.The third paragraph mainly tells you that ________. A. you should focus on whoever you are talking to B.you should be interested in everyone at a party C.you can refuse to talk to someone you don't like at a party D.you should be patient with everyone at a party 答案与解析 A 段意归纳题。该段主要告知我们要集中留意力对待和我们谈话的每一个人。 8.A person who has a lowlevel job probably ________. A.would like to talk to you B.is the one you're looking for C.wants to make friends with you D.is well worth focusing on 答案与解析 D 推理推断题。依据第三段中“But maybe you don't realize that this person has already met the CEO and could introduce you”等信息可以推出,和职位低的人谈话也要集中留意力。 9.If your wife wants to talk to you when you are busy, you should ________. A.go on with what you are doing B.stop doing anything immediately C.decide what to do according to the situation D.finish what you are doing with her 答案与解析 C 细节理解题。依据第四段中“Second, whether you want to speak to someone is based on the situation.”可知,这种状况要视情形而定。 10.What is the main idea of this passage? A.Always be friendly to others at a party. B.Improve your communication skills by focusing on others. C.It is important for you to be active at a party. D.You should respect your wife at any time. 答案与解析 B 主旨大意题。本文的主题是:通过集中留意力提高你的交际力量。
