Counseling – Talk therapy can be an effective treatment for mental illness, and can help a person learn coping skills and strategies to manage their symptoms. 3. Getting enough sleep – Lack of sleep can worsen symptoms of mental illness, so it's important to get enough sleep each night. 5.
