(Text 2) M: Did you hear of the earthquake in Iran? I just watched the news on TV. W: Yes, I have just read the newspaper. (Text 3) W: How much did you pay for the used books? M: I paid $5—half of their usual price. (Text 4) M: What do you think of the book I lent you? Not good? W: Oh, it couldn't be better. (Text 5) M: What is the material? W: These gloves are made of goat leather. M: How many designs do you have? W: We have three designs in that grade. (Text 6) M: Good morning. Anything I can do for you? W: I'd like to look at some of these cars. M: We have various cars. Do you want a domestically made car or an imported one? W: A domestic car is cheaper than an imported one. So I'd prefer a domestic one. M: OK. Please have a look over there. W: I think I would like to see some cars with manual transmission. M: Fine. What about the blue car? It is our latest model. W: But I'd like an economical one. M: OK. This white one? W: It looks good. What price do you set? M: Only $50,000. W: Let me think about it. Can I have a test drive? M: Sure. This way, please. (Text 7) M: What kind of insurance do you generally provide? W: We offer various kinds of insurance, such as All Risks, WPA, FPA and TLO, etc. M: I have some boxes of teapots to be shipped to Hoog Kong. Shall I take out TLO? W: If you insure against TLO, the insurance company will pay for total loss only, but not for partial loss. I think this is too risky. M: Sounds reasonable. Then what do you suggest? W: I think All Risks will be suitable. The insurance company pays for total or partial loss on land or sea of the insured goods within the period of coverage. M: What about FPA? I think the cost of FPA is a little bit lower. W: Yes, it's true. But the FPA coverage is smaller than All Risks. It does not cover partial loss of a particular average. M: OK. I'll take your advice and take out All Risks. W: Now please fill out the application form. (Text 8) W: Good morning. May I help you? M: I hope so. I will be here in New York for only two days. I want to see the main sites. W: Then I suggest you start with the Statue of Liberty. You can take a boat trip there. M: Good idea. I'd like to see that. What else? W: Why don't you go to the Empire State Building? You can get a magnificent view of the city from its 86th floor observatory. It's a favorite with tourists. M: Mmm, that sounds interesting. And at night? W: Times Square has plenty of nightlife. There are many good theaters and clubs on Broadway. You can have a real taste of American music and dancing. M: Great! Then I will need to relax a little next day, I suppose. W: Well, there's Central Park. It is beautifully designed and has many wonders. M: Good. What about shops? I do need to buy some souvenirs. W: Oh, New York is a paradise for shoppers. Fifth Avenue is lined with fashionable shops. You can get almost everything there. M: Excellent—two full, exciting days! Thank you very much. W: It's a pleasure. (Text 9) M: Good morning, Mrs. Smith. Take your seat, please. W: Thank you. M: You answered our advertisement in the paper for a secretary. Frankly speaking, I'm quite satisfied with your qualifications since you have six years' experience in office work. What company are you working with now? W: Well, I'm out of work for the time being. I used to work in a Japanese firm. But two months ago, the boss went back to Japan with his family, so the firm was closed down. M: Does that mean that you can come here to work at any time on call if we hire you? W: That's right. By the way, what is the salary? M: One thousand five hundred dollars a month to start with, and in three months your salary would be increased. And a year from now, you will have two weeks' holiday. W: That's great. (Text 10) My dad is a “Mr. Mom”. He was 50 years old when I was born. I didn't know why he was at home instead of Mom, but I considered myself very lucky because I was the only one of my class who had Dad around. Dad did so many things for me during my elementary school years. He convinced the school bus driver to pick me up at our house instead of the usual bus stop six blocks away. He always had my lunch ready for me when I came home. As I got a little older and tried to gain my independence, I wanted to move away from those “childish” signs of his love. But he wouldn't give up. In high school I was no longer able to go home for lunch, so I began taking my own. Dad would get up a little earlier and make it for me. However, when I left home for college, I missed seeing my dad every day after school. At that time I called him a lot. It didn't matter what he said; I just wanted to hear his voice. A (2021·江苏省泰州市姜堰月考) Everyone gathered around and Paddy read out loud, slowly, his tone growing sadder and sadder. The little headline said BOXER RECEIVES LIFF SENTENCE. Frank Cleary, aged 26, professional boxer, was today found guilty of the murder of Albert Gumming, aged 32, laborer, last July. The jury(陪审团) reached its decision after only ten minutes, recommending the most severe punishment to the court. It was, said the Judge, a simple case. Cumming and Cleary had quarreled violently at the Harbour Hotel on July 23rd and police saw Cleary kicking at the head of the unconscious Gumming. When arrested, Cleary was drunk but clearthinking. Cleary was sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labour. Asked if he had anything to say, Cleary answered, “Just don't tell my mother.” “It happened over three years ago,” Paddy said helplessly. No one answered him or moved, for no one knew what to do. “Just don't tell my mother,” said Fee numbly(麻木地). “And no one did! Oh, God! My poor, poor Frank!” Paddy wiped the tears from his face and said. “Fee, pack your things. We'll go to see him.” She_halfrose_before_sinking_back,_her_eyes_in_her_small_white_face_stared_as_if_dead. “I can't go,” she said without a hint of pain, yet making everyone feel that the pain was there. “It would kill him to see me. I know him so well—his pride, his ambition. Let him bear the shame alone, it's what he wants. We've got to help him keep his secret. What good will it do him to see us?” Paddy was still weeping, not for Frank, but for the life which had gone from Fee's face, for the dying in her eyes. Frank had always brought bitterness and misfortune, always stood between Fee and himself. He was the cause of her withdrawal from his heart and the hearts of his children. Every time it looked as if there might be happiness for Fee, Frank took it away. But Paddy's love for her was as deep and impossible to wipe out as hers was for Frank. So he said, “Well, Fee, we won't go. But we must make sure he is taken care of. How about if I write to Father Jones and ask him to look out for Frank?” There was no excitement in the eyes, but a faint pink stole into her cheeks. “Yes, Paddy, do that. Only make sure he knows not to tell Frank we found out. Perhaps it would ease Frank to think for certain that we don't know.” 21.Paddy cried because he thought ________. A.Frank did kill someone and deserved the punishment B.Frank should have told Fee what had happened C.what had happened to Frank was killing Fee D.Frank had always been a man of bad moral character 22.The underlined sentence “She halfrose before sinking back...” in Paragraph 6 shows that ________. A.Fee was so heartbroken that she could hardly stand up B.Fee didn't want to upset Paddy by visiting Frank C.Fee couldn't leave her family to go to see Frank D.Fee struggled between wanting to see Frank and respecting his wish 23.What can be inferred from the passage? A.The jury and the judge agreed on the Boxer's Sentence of Life Imprisonment. B.The police found Gumming unconscious, heavily struck by Frank. C.The family didn't find out what had happened to Frank until 3 years later. D.Frank didn't want his family to know the sentence to him, most probably out of his pride. 24.What is Frank and Paddy's probable relationship with Fee? A.Frank is Fee's son and Paddy is Fee's brother. B.Frank is Fee's son and Paddy is Fee's husband. C.Frank is Fee's brother and Paddy is Fee's lover. D.Frank is Fee's lover and Paddy is Fee's husband. 依据倒数第三段“Paddy was still weeping, not for Frank, but for the life which had gone from Fee's face, for the dying in her eyes.” 依据“I can't go,”... It would kill him to see me... Let him bear the shame alone, it's what he wants. 依据倒数第四段“I know him so well—his pride, his ambition.” 依据第四段“Just don't tell my mother,” said Fee numbly和最终一段“Only make sure he knows not to tell Frank we found out.”可知,Frank 的妈妈知道了他被判刑的消息,而他的母亲就是Fee,依据倒数第三段“But Paddy's love for her was as deep and impossible to wipe out as hers was for Frank.” B。 B I have safely arrived on the boat Pangaea. It's amazing that all of us get the chance to be the captain of it! This is the boat that Mike Horn once sailed to the South Pole. We stopped in Bluff, and set off to meet the Maoris (毛利人). I thought at first that the Maoris were wild men living in a tribe (部落) and wearing animal fur. But actually they live just as we do, both with their clothes and food. We came to a hut (小屋), which was decorated with patterns from long ago. Before entering, we were told to line up, men following women as an old woman stood in front of the hut singing. You can tell that they haven't left all their traditions behind. The old lady gave us an introduction to the legends of New Zealand, the Maoris and the Pounamu (a local green stone). Then came the most interesting part, sharing the Maoris' song and dance. Boys learnt how to dance the Haka and for girls it's the Uka. While the Maoris performed the songs, I enjoyed rocking my body and blinking my eyes with the rhythm (节奏), an instinct (本能) that came straight from the heart. Amazing! What's more surprising was that after the show, an old Maori lady came to tell me that she had two granddaughters whose faces looked just like mine! Yes, the first Maoris sailed to New Zealand from Asia, which might indicate a close relationship with Chinese people! No wonder I was so moved by the dances and songs the Maoris have! It is so heartwarming to touch a culture that is so far away, but which you can relate to so closely. Li Jun won a onceinalifetime opportunity after seeing a piece of short world news in 21st Century Teens last October. In January, she joined a 10day training camp to the Alps in Switzerland, set up by South African explorer Mike Horn. Now she is on a 15day trip to the Southern Island of New Zealand with eight teenagers from around the world. 25.The best title for the passage is ________. A. A Pleasant Journey B. The Magical South Pole C. Meeting the Maoris D. A Brave Explorer 26.We can infer that Bluff belongs to ________. A. the South Pole B. New Zealand C. Asia D. Switzerland 27.The “Haka” and “Uka” in Paragraph 6 refer to ________. A. the Maoris' languages B. names of different songs C. two dances D. ways to make a living 28.We can infer from the passage that ________. A. Mike Horn once visited the Maoris B. the Maoris are all Chinese C. Maori women's social position is higher than men D. the Maoris have their root in Asia 答案 25.C 标题归纳题。 Yes, the first Maoris sailed to New Zealand from Asia, which might indicate a close relationship with Chinese people! C (2021·重庆一中月考) Nuclear power's danger to health, safety, and even life itself can be described in one word: radiation. Nuclear radiation has a certain mystery about it, partly because
