To have the Ss master the words and phrases: birthday food, cake, candle, noodles, blow out, make a wish, cut up, lucky, long life. 2. Ability aims: A. To develop the Ss’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing . B. To train the Ss’ ability of working in groups. 3. Emotional aims: A. To enable the Ss to grasp the reading skills. B. To enable the Ss to get some important information by themselves. l Teaching focuses: 1. To help to train the Ss’ abilities of expressing themselves in English. 2. To help the Ss’ to communicate with other. 3. To enable the Ss to study in groups and co-operate skillfully. 4. To develop the Ss’ interest in English. l Teaching difficulties: 1. Know the birthday food around the world. 2. Master reading skills. l Teaching methods: 1. Communicative teaching methods. 2. Group- working methods. 3. Reading methods. l Teaching process: Step 1: warm - up Let students listen to a song--- a birthday song. T: what do you eat on your birthday? Students: Cake, noodles, egg… Step2: Fast – reading Today we are going to know birthday food around the world. Now, I’ll give you 2mins to read the passage, and then fill the chart. Country Food Special meaning UK China After 2 minutes, ask two students to write their answers on the blackboard, others write on their books, at last check the answers. Step 3: Careful – reading Just now we have gotten some ideas about birthday food around .the world. Now we are going to get more details about it. 1.Divide students into several groups. 5 minutes for students to read the passage carefully. 1 2 3 4 A B C 2. After 5 minutes, let students look at the picture. (It’s on the PPT). There are twelve “ ” in the picture. Each naught stands for a question. Those questions include the questions on the book, translation, or reading a paragraph and so on. 3.One student of each group chooses a question, just like A1, B3, C2…, then discusses with his/ her partners, and answer the question. 4.If the answer if right, the group will get 0--6 points, or a “Hurricane”. The “Hurricane” means that no matter how many points the group has gotten, the whole points will become zero. 5.The group who gets the most points is the winner. Step 4: practice Firstly name the groups. Each group stands for a key word or an important phrase. These words and phrases come from the passage. Eg: birthday food, cake, candle, noodles, blow out, make a wish, cut up, lucky, long life. Secondly all students listen to the tape, don't look at their books. When they hear their group’s name, stand up and sit down quickly.
