高一年级英语诊断性测试试卷(一)
命题人: 黄秋莹 测试时间:2016年10月17日 总分: 135分 用时: 90分钟
第一部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分30分)
第一节 (共10小题;每小题2分,满分20分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
One of the most difficult things for children to deal with when moving to a new town is leaving their friends and making new ones.
We once moved and one of our new neighbors told us about a summer camp at the Recreation Center all the kids went to. My husband and I looked into it and we found it was unbelievably cheap. I had the kids sign up (报名) the next day so that they could know more kids there.
Another thing we did was to have them sign up for sports when school started. They were happy to be on teams with new friends they made. This also gave me a chance to meet new people and from them I sometimes got some useful ideas for my new books.
If you’re just moving to a new house in the same city you live in now, it won’t really be a problem unless your kids are changing schools. If they are, it is a great idea to have them take the address book to school. Thus, your children won’t feel “lost” without their old friends.
If you’re able to, over the summer vacation, try inviting the friend your child misses most to come and visit your new home for a week, or even a few weeks. I know this can be difficult if that child has to fly, but maybe you can work out a plan with the child’s parents. Think how happy the kids will be when they meet!
1. The author had her kids sign up for the summer camp mainly because _____.
A. she could afford the cost
B. she was asked to do so by her kids
C. it could give her kids a chance to meet more kids
D. it could make the summer holiday not so boring
2. What is probably the author?
A. A housewife. B. A business woman.
C. A teacher. D. A writer.
3. What we can’t learn from the passage is that ____.
A. a summer camp at the Recreation Center was very cheap
B. having the kids take part in sports is good for both the author and her kids
C. parents should ask their children not to think of their old friends
D. parents should create more chances for children to make new friends
4. The purpose of the passage is to teach parents how to ______ when they move to a new place.
A. get used to the new life in a short time
B. help their children make new friends and keep the old ones
C. get along with their new neighbors
D. help their children get used to the new school life

A student is learning to speak British English. He wonders: Can I communicate with Americans? Can they understand me? Learners of English often ask: What are the differences between British and American English? How important are these differences?
Certainly, there are some differences between British and American English. There are a few differences in grammar. For example, speakers of British English say “in hospital” and "Have you a pen?”, Americans say “in the hospital” and ‘Do you have a pen?’.Pronunciation is sometimes different. Americans usually sound theirs in words like “bird” and “hurt”. Speakers of British English do not sound theirs in these words. There are differences between British and American English in spelling and vocabulary. For example, “colour” and “honour” are British, “color” and “honor” are American.
These differences in grammar, pronunciation, spelling and vocabulary are not important, however. For the most part, British and American English are the same language.
5. According to this passage, a student who is learning to speak American English might be afraid that __________.
A. British people cannot understand him

Are you scared about moving up to senior high school? It can be a new experience, but you shouldn’t worry. We’ve put together a guide to help you in the first week.
You’re not alone
Remember everybody else in your year is in the same boat. They may not realize it, but they’re just as nervous as you are. Moving to senior high school is an opportunity, not a problem. Things are different and all you need to do is be polite and learn the new rules.
Teachers are ready to help
If you’re unsure what to do or are worried about anything, then ask for help. Teachers are probably the best people to turn to as they are experienced in helping new students. Some senior high schools also have a “friends system”. If your school has this, then you will be paired with an older student. He/ She will help you if you have any problems or questions.
Other points
If you’ve got an older brother of sister at the school, then ask them for advice. Be yourself! It sounds simple, but people will know you much better if you just act naturally.
Having early nights makes a difference and you will find it easier to get up in the morning!
8. Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined sentence?
A. Other students have similar feelings to yours.
B. Other students have to learn boating with you.
C. Other students will help you solve your problems.
D. Other students will teach you politeness and new rules.
9. New students turn to teachers first when having problems because teachers ______.
A. can find friends for students B. are good at helping new students
C. can look after students like parents D. care for younger students more
10. The author wrote the passage to _______.
A. tell students the importance of learning
B. warn students not to ignore friendship in senior high school
C. make a difference when moving up to senior high school
D. help new students to get used to the life in senior high school
