He had little school education. In spite of this, he became the most famous writer of his time. He made millions of dollars by writing. His real name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens, but he is better known all over the world as Mark Twain, his penname. Mark Twain was born in 1835 and he was not a healthy baby. In fact, he was not expected to live through the first winter. But with his mother’s care, he managed to survive. As a boy, he caused much trouble for his parents. He used to play jokes on all his friends and neighbors. He didn’t like to go to school, and he often ran away from home. He always went in the direction of the nearby Mississippi. He was nearly drowned nine times. After his father’s death, Mark Twain began to work for a printer, who only provided him with food and clothing. Then, he worked as a printer, a river-boat pilot and later joined the army. But shortly after that he became a miner. During this period, he started to write short stories. Afterwards he became a full time writer. In 1870, Mark Twain got married. In the years that followed he wrote many books including Tom Sawyer in 1876, and Huckleberry Finn in 1884, which made him famous, and brought him great fortune. Unfortunately, Mark Twain got into debts in bad investments(投资) and he had to write large numbers of stories to pay these debts. In 1904, his wife died, and then three of his children passed away. At the age of 70, his hair was completely white. He bought many white suits and neckties. He wore nothing but white from head to foot until his death on April 21, 1910. 1. He worked as a printer. d. His father died. F. He joined the army. A.a—d—b—c—e—f B.d—b—f—a—e—c C.d—a—f—e—b—c D.c—b—d—f—e—a 3. Before his death, Mark Twain _______.[来源:学#科#网Z#X#X#K] A.became a white man B.was in low spirits C.liked to buy all kinds of clothes D.had nothing on B Most people, when they travel to space, would like to stay in orbit for a few days or more. And this stands to reason, if you’re paying $20,000 for your trip to orbit(轨道)! So in order for tourism to reach its full potential there’s going to be a need for orbital accommodation --- or space hotels. What would a space hotel actually be like to visit? Hotels in orbit will offer the services you expect from a hotel --- private rooms, meals, bars. But they’ll also offer two unique experiences: impressive views --- of Earth and space --- and the endless entertainment of living in zero gravity --- including sports and other activities that make use of this. The hotels themselves will vary greatly --- from being quite simple in the early days to huge luxury structure at a later date. It’s actually surprising that as later as 1997, very few designs for space hotels were published. This is mainly because those who might be expected to design them haven’t expected launch(发射) costs to come down far enough to make them possible. Lots of people who’ve been to space have described vividly what it’s like to live in zero gravity. There are obviously all sorts of possibilities for dancing, gymnastics, and zero-G sports. Luckily, you don’t need to sleep much living in zero gravity, so you’ll have plenty of time for relaxing by hanging out in a bar with a window looking down at the turning Earth below. Of course all good things have come to an end, unfortunately. And so after a few days you’ll find yourself heading back though you’ll be much more expert at exercising in zero gravity than you were when you arrive. You’ll be thinking how soon you can save up enough to get back up again --- or maybe you should change jobs to get to work in an orbiting hotel. 4. When traveling in space, most people would like to stay in orbit for a few days because _______. A. It is expensive to travel in space B. they would find the possible life in other star systems C. they could enjoy the luxury of space hotels D. they want to realize the full potential of tourism 5. Which of the following is a unique experience that space hotels will offer? A. The gravitational pull    B. The special views. C. The relaxation in a bar.   D. The space walk. 6. This passage is mainly about ________. A. traveling in space B. the ways of living in space hotels C. zero gravity and space hotels D. the description of space hotels C Arts and culture is lived and breathed in every corner of Canada. But just as in face to face communication, there are some rules of behavior that should be followed when on line.   11    Imagine how you’d feel if you were in the other person’s shoes. For anything you’re about to send: ask yourself, “Would I say this to the person’s face?” If the answer is no, rewrite and reread.    12  If someone in the chat room is rude to you, your instinct (本能) is to fire back in the same manner. But try not to do so.   13    If it was caused by a disagreement with another member, try to fix the situation by politely discussing it. Remember to respect the beliefs and opinions of others in the chat room. 14     Offer advice when asked by newcomers, as they may not be sure what to do or how to communicate. When someone makes a mistake, whether it’s a stupid question or an unnecessarily long answer, be kind about it. If it’s a small mistake, you may not need to say anything. Even if you feel strongly about it, think twice before saying anything. Having good manners yourself doesn’t give you license to correct everyone else.   15    At the same time, if you find you are wrong, be sure to correct yourself and apologize to those that you have offended. It is not polite to ask others personal questions such as their age, sex and marital status. Unless you know the person very well, and you are both comfortable with sharing personal information, don’t ask such questions.[来源:Zxxk.Com] A. It’s natural that there some people who speak rudely or make mistakes online. B. Repeat the process till you feel sure that you’d feel comfortable saying the words to the person’s face. C. Everyone was new to the network once. D. The basic rule is simple: treat others in the same way you would want to be treated. E. When you send short messages to a person online, you must say something beautiful to hear. F. You should either ignore the person, or use your chat software to block their messages. G. If you do decide to tell someone about a mistake, point it out politely. It was a normal summer night.
