The Wonder of Argentina Iguazu Falls
Missing the sun? Well, down in Argentina, its summertime and beautiful destinations like Iguazu Falls are waiting to be discovered. Lots to do and see, this is one place everyone needs to visit at least once in their lifetime.
Located in the northern province of Misiones, Argentina on the Iguazu River (iguazu being the Guarani word for “great water”), Iguazu Falls is known as one of the world’s largest and most attractive waterfalls. Upon former US First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt’s visit to the Falls, she said, “Poor Niagara!” The Falls divide the river in half, making the upper and lower Iguazu. The largest of the 275 falls that swallow the river is “Devil’s Throat”, and with a height of an astonishing 80 meters, it’s a fairly impressive sight to view!
The Park
In order to see the Falls in all its glory, you’ll need to visit the Park, which was created in 1934 to preserve the biological diversity of the subtropical rainforest and the breathtaking scenery surrounding the Falls. It was declared a Natural Heritage in 1984 and covers an area of approximately 660 square meters. Approximately 400 species of birds, 2000 species of plants and a world of insects call the Park their home. You’ll especially love the butterflies that constantly surround and play with you!
The Devil’s Throat
The “Garganta del Diablo” (means Devil’s Throat) is the reason for this trip! Once in the Park, you can enjoy walking along the scenic 1100-meter-long path that starts from Garganta station and takes you to the viewing balcony(露台), where you’ll be able to get an overall view of one of the most beautiful sights you’ll ever see! However, be prepared to be wet through by the powerful spray(水花) coming off the Falls.
Don’t Miss
Take a boat ride that place you right under the falls——but be prepared to get totally soaked!—— and walk along more stunning paths; enjoy a photo safari through the forest, or view the Falls at night under the light of the full moon!

Compared to people with bad attitudes, people who are cheerful and relaxed are less likely to suffer from colds, according to a new study. “It’s possible that being upbeat helps the body fight illnesses,” says Sheldon Cohen, the study’s lead researcher from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh.
In a previous study,Cohen and his colleagues put coldcausing viruses into the noses of 334 healthy adults. People who tended to be cheerful and lively were least likely to develop sniffles, coughs, and other cold symptoms. People who showed positive feelings were also less likely to mention symptoms to their doctors, even when medical tests detected those symptoms.
Those findings were interesting, but they didn’t prove that a person’s attitude affects whether he or she gets sick. Instead,it was still possible that a person’s underlying personality is what matters. Evidence suggests, for instance, that certain people are naturally more likely to be outgoing and optimistic, with high selfesteem and a sense of control over life. This would mean that who we are,not how we feel, ultimately decides our chances of catching colds.
To figure out which mattered more (personality or emotions),the CMU team interviewed 193 healthy adults. The researchers talked to each person over the phone every evening for 2 weeks. At the end of the interviewing period, people got nose drops that contained either cold or flu viruses. Then, each person stayed in an isolated room for 5 or 6 days. The results showed that everyone in the study was equally likely to get infected. Their symptoms, however, differed depending on the types of emotions that they had reported over the previous 2 weeks. Among those who reported good moods and had been infected with the flu virus, for example,28 percent developed coughs and stuffy noses. On the other hand, those symptoms struck 41 percent of people who had been less upbeat.
24.What would be the best title for the passage?
A.Smiles Turn away Colds

25.In the previous study, people who showed positive feelings______.
A.didn’t catch colds as often

26.What mainly decides our chances of catching colds according to the new study?
A.Personality. B.Selfesteem.
C.Emotions. D.Attitudes.
27.The underlined word “symptoms” probably means________.
A.something that causes cold
B.something that results in cold
C.signs that something exists, especially something bad

Two new whale sharks arrived at the world's largest aquarium (水族馆) on Friday.
Both whale sharks, the world's largest fish, arrived at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta after 6 a.m. The pair had been flown 8,000 miles from Taipei, Taiwan. They will join the aquarium's three whale sharks--the only ones on display outside of Asia.
“ We re the only people in the world that can claim (索要) three times, ” aquarium director Jeff Swanagan said, “ Each time we learn more and more.”
The two young males were given Asian names. One is Taroko, named after Taroko Gorge, a national park in Taiwan. The other is Yushan, which means "Jade Mountain", and is named after a mountain in Taiwan.
The sharks were flown from Taiwan on a plane in 20-foot-long tanks with oxygen (氧气) machines and other equipment to keep the water suitable for them.
They arrived at about 3:30 a.m. in Atlanta, where their tanks were moved to two trucks and driven to the aquarium surrounded by some of Atlanta police cars with their blue lights flashing. They were lowered into their new home--as Norton and two females, Alice and Trixie, circled nearby, seemingly curious about the new arrivals.

When I was six, Dad brought home a dog one day, who was called “Brownie”. My brothers and I all loved Brownie and did different things with her. One of us would walk her, another would feed her, then there were baths, playing catch and many other games. Brownie, in return, loved each and every one of us. One thing that most touched my heart was that she would go to whoever was sick and just be with them. We always felt better when she was around.
One day, as I was getting her food, she chewed up (咬破) one of Dad’s shoes, which had to be thrown away in the end. I knew Dad would be mad and I had to let her know what she did was wrong. When I looked at her and said, “Bad girl,” she looked down at the ground and then went and hid. I saw a tear in her eyes.
Brownie turned out to be more than just our family pet, she went everywhere with us. People would stop and ask if they could pet her. Of course she’d let anyone pet her. She was just the most lovable dog. There were many times when we’d be out walking and a small child would come over and pull on her hair. She never barked (吠) or tried to get away. The funny thing is that she would smile. This frightened people because they thought she was showing her teeth. Far from the truth, she loved everyone.
Now many years have passed since Brownie died of old age. I still miss days when she was with us.
32. What would Brownie do when someone was ill in the family?
A. Look at them sadly. B. Keep them company.
