Master the key language points and grammatical structures in the text 3. Learn and practice the reading skill-skimming and guided writing—specific details in this unit. 教学重点及难点 Keys: Master the key language points and grammatical structures in the text: remark, cite, widespread, advance, swallow, appeal, cast, justify,…. Difficulties: Comprehend the importance of independent reasoning and experience rather than blindly trusting authority or self-evident truth 教学方法及手段 Multimedia and traditional lecturing 教学内容 及过程 (包含教学主要内容、教学环节设计及时间分配、实施步骤等,可根据需要自行设计项目,可根据内容增加页) Time allotment: Main Reading (6 periods): 1st period: Pre-reading activities ( theme-related questions for warming up; background information; text structure) 2nd-4th period: While-reading activities (explanation of useful words and expressions; sentence text analysis;) 5th—6th period: Post-reading activities (comprehension questions; translation skills; exercises) It will take 6 periods to fulfill Unit 1, and this time, the 5th and 6th periods will be finished. Teaching contents: I. Dictation II. Post-reading Activities In this part, all exercises including those after the text and in the exercise will be checked. All exercises have already been assigned as homework. Step 1. Exercises after the text. 1. Vocabulary activities Some sentences are as follows: Some people tend to exaggerate when they talk about their own achievements. Sometimes the preface to a novel or a play is more interesting than the work itself. The sun had sunk below the horizon when we arrived at the village. Method: question-answer method; self/inter-checking method; etc. 3. Reading Activity. Reading Attack Skill VI—Skimming (1) 4. Guided Writing. Specific details Step 2. Exercises in the exercise book 1. reading comprehension In this part, students are given roughly 10 minutes to finish the multiple choice questions in the reading part, and then check the answers. The teacher has to explain the reading skills like skimming.(Page39-40). Some of the keys are as follows: 1) by sending back the images in the outer space. 2) Because pinkish images from show it. 3) More than four miles have shrunk from glacier in Alaska. …… Purpose: to practice Ss’ fast reading ability and help Ss to have a quick understanding of the whole passage. Method: question-answer method; self/inter-checking method; etc. 2. translation The students have to translate the Chinese in the bracket by using the words or phrases from the text. In this part, the teacher continues to practice Ss’ ability of using newly learnt words and expressions.
