When I was learning calligraphy(书法),my teacher told me a story.
A calligrapher taught handwriting. One of his students who often practiced handwriting with old sheets of newspaper complained that he made very little progress though he had learned it with the calligrapher for a long time. His teacher said to him, “Try to use the best paper. Maybe you’ll write better. ”
The student did as he was told. It really worked. He made headway not long afterwards and felt curious. He asked his teacher about the reason. The calligrapher answered, “When you used old newspaper to practice handwriting, you would think you were writing a draft. It didn’t matter if you wrote badly as old newspaper was plenty in supply. In that case you wouldn’t pay much attention to it. Now you use the best paper and you’ll treasure it. Each time you write you feel strongly about the rarity of chances and you’ll devote to it with all your heart and soul;you’ll do the handwriting much more attentively than practicing. Of course you’ve made rapid progress. ”
Indeed,we spend our ordinary days just as they are worthless “old newspaper”.We don’t care if we scrawl and waste it,thinking that it will come endlessly—the “old newspaper” is inexhaustible(无穷无尽的). In such a mood we may each day pass by opportunities but fail to catch any of them.
Life is not a military(军事的)exercise but an actual war in which real weapons are used. In everyday life there’s no chance for us to draft. That’s because what we call “draft” actually is the answer sheet we write that cannot be changed.
Every day of our life is something new. Let us take every day as a sheet of the best paper.
16. The calligrapher in the story told the student to write on the best paper because he thought_________ .
A.the student had enough money to buy the best paper

C.the student would practice more carefully on the best paper
D.the student could write more on the best paper
17. The student didn’t make much progress at first because_________.
A.he didn’t follow his teacher’s advice
B.he regarded his writing on old newspaper just as a draft
C.he was too poor to buy better paper to write on
D.he was not used to the calligrapher’s teaching manner
18. We learn from the passage that_________.
A.the student finally gave up
B.old newspaper is not useful
C.the calligrapher was strict with his students
D.the student made rapid progress by practicing more carefully
19. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Success calls for attentiveness. B.What teachers say is always true.
C.Handwriting is easy to practice. D.New things are always better than old ones.
20. The writer wants to tell us that_________ .
A.there are some good ways to practice handwriting
B.life is like old newspaper
C.life will not give us a chance to draw a draft
D.we should learn from the student in the story
任务型阅读(共5小题;每小题1分,共5分)(E=AB,F=AC,G=AD)
The word addiction usually makes you think of alcohol or drugs. 21 Some people are compulsive shoppers. Others find it impossible to pull themselves away from their work. Still others spend countless hours watching TV or playing computer games.
22 Many people enjoy going to malls or stores more and more every day, but it’s more than a common hobby for some of them. They have turned into shopaholics. They are people who simply enjoy shopping and walking around spending money without being able to stop doing it. They are hooked on shopping and usually buy things that they don’t need. Even though they don’t have enough money, they buy everything they want .
The question is: why do they have this addiction? There isn’t a specific answer. Some people go shopping when they are sad, worried, upset or lonely and they want to feel better. They use this activity as a way to forget their problems. Shopaholics say that they feel more important and better after they buy something. 23
Shopaholism seems to be a harmless addiction, but it can bring out problems. Some of them can be psychological. If this is the case, people addicted to shopping should go to a support group to help them break this habit. However, the process, like for most addictions, is long, and they suffer a lot. 24 They just think about satisfying their feelings, so they spend money they don’t have. 25 _.
A.Once you are addicted to alcohol or drugs, it is difficult to get rid of them.
B. Over the years, shopping has become a very common activity.
C. They also tend to have this addiction when they feel guilty.
D. However, in modern-day society we are seeking some new kinds of addictions.
E. People addicted to computer games consider the games as great ways to amuse themselves.
F. They get deep in debt, and they can even go bankrupt and get sent to prison.
G. It can also cause financial problems.
