Many wealthy and well-traveled people want a completely new experience, but they don't necessarily want to give up luxury accommodations and service. The following vacations could be best choices.

Go Glamping in Montana
The Resort at Paws Up located on a cattle ranch is a standout in the type. The ranch rents homes with up to four bedrooms, but it's the luxury tents that offer closer communion with the outdoors. Guests can participate in a cattle drive, go clay shooting, take a hot air balloon trip, or ride horses.
Climb inside a Volcano in Iceland
Iceland is famous for its volcanoes and has plenty of luxury hotel options. Thrillseekers can actually go down into the dormant, 700footdeep Thrihnukagigur, by using an open elevator. I think it was October, 1982. A friend had business dealings in the city of Reno, Nevada, and I was asked to accompany her on an overnight trip. While she conducted her business, I was aimlessly wandering down Virginia Street, heading into a most gloriously beautiful sunset. I had an urge to speak to someone on the street to share that beauty, but I couldn't make eye contact with anyone. Quickly I ducked into a department store and asked the lady behind the counter if she could come
outside for just a minute. She looked at me as though I were from some other planet and said,“Well...” Surprisingly, she
followed me out.
When she got outside I said to her,“Just look at that sunset! Nobody out here was looking at it and I just had to share it with someone.”
For a few seconds we just looked. Then I said,“God's in his heaven and all's right with the world.” I thanked her for coming out to see it and sharing the beauty.
Four years later my situation had changed considerably. I had come to the end of a twenty-year marriage. I was alone and on my own for the first time in my life. One day, while my clothes were going around, I picked up a Unity Magazine and read an article about a woman who had been in similar circumstances. She had come to the end of a marriage, moved to a strange community, and the only job she could find was one she disliked: cosmetic sales in a department store. We had a lot in common.
Then something happened to her that changed everything. She said a woman came into her department store and asked her to step outside to look at a sunset. The stranger had said “God's in his heaven and all's right with the world,”
and she had realized the truth in that statement and that she simply had not been seeing it. From that moment on, she turned her life around.
24. Why did the writer duck into a department store? A.She found it was boring with nobody talking to her. B.She wanted to buy something for her friend.
C.She wanted to find somebody to share the beautiful sunset.
D.She thought it was her responsibility to share the natural beauty with others.
25. What does the sentence “God's in his heaven and all's right with the world” mean? A.We should be optimistic in the face of uncertainty.
B.We should believe in God who can help us when we are in trouble. C.We should never hold the belief that God can change our life.
D.We should be independent and enjoy ourselves in spite of difficulties.
26. What do you think finally changed the writer's attitude towards life?
A.The old magazine she came across. B.The encouragement from the woman. C.The sunset they enjoyed four years ago. D.The woman's story.
27. What may be the best title for the text?
A.Depending on yourself B.Sharing beauty
C.Struggling every day D.Never giving up halfway
C
Hundreds of years ago, news was carried from place to place by people on foot or by horse. It took days, weeks and sometimes months for people to receive news. Now it is possible to send words and pictures around the world in seconds. Billions of people learn about news stories of their own country and all over the world every day, either by watching TV
or reading newspapers.
Newspapers have been an important part of everyday life since the 18th century. Many countries have hundreds of different newspapers. How do newspaper editors decide which news stories to print? Why do they print some stories and not others? What makes a good newspaper story?
Firstly,it is important to report news stories.TV stations can report news much faster than newspapers. Yet,
newspapers give more about the same story. They may also look at the story in another way,or they may print completely different stories to those on TV.
Secondly,a news story has to be interesting and unusual. People don’t want to read stories about everyday life. As a result,
many stories are about some kind of danger and seem to be “bad” news. For example, newspapers never print stories about planes landing safely;instead they print stories about plane accidents.
Another factor is also very important in many news stories. Many people are interested in news in foreign countries, but more prefer to read stories about people, places and events in their own country. So the stories on the front page in Chinese newspapers are usually very different from the ones in British,French and American newspapers.
28.The difference between newspaper stories and TV news reports it that . A.people can learn more about the same news story from a newspaper
B.people can read the news story more quickly in a newspaper C.people can read news stories in other countries
D.people can read news stories about their own country
29.To make a good newspaper story, how many factors does the passage talk about?
A.Two. B.Three. C.Five. D.Six. 30.According to the passage, which of the following can you most possibly watch on TV?
A.You often play football with your friends after school. B.Your teacher has got a cold.
C.A tiger in the city zoo has run out and hasn’t been caught. D.The bike in front of your house is lost.
31.Which of the following is Not true in this passage?
A.News stories on the front page of every country are always the same. B.People like to read interesting and unusual news.
C.Not only TV but also newspapers can help people to learn what is happening around the world. D.Newspapers have been an important part of everyday life for more than three hundred years.
D
In the second half of each year, many powerful storms are born in the tropical(热带的)Atlantic and Caribbean seas.
Of these, only about half a dozen becomes the strong, circling winds of 75 miles per hour or more that are called hurricanes, and several usually make their way to the coast. There they cause millions of dollars of damage, and bring death to large numbers of people.
The great storms that hit the coast start as soft circling wind hundreds—even thousands—of miles out to sea. As they travel aimlessly over water warmed by the summer sun, they are carried westward by the southeast winds. When conditions are just right, warm, moist(潮湿) air flows in at the bottom of such a wind, moves upward through it and comes out at the top. In the process, the moisture in this warm air produces rain, and with it the heat is changed to energy in the form of strong winds. As the heat increases, the young hurricane begins to move in a counter-clockwise motion(逆时针运动).
The life of a hurricane is only about nine days, but it contains almost more power than we can imagine. The energy in the heat released by a hurricane’s rainfall in a single day would satisfy the entire electrical needs of the United States for more than six months. Water, not wind,is the main source of death and destruction in a hurricane. A typical hurricane brings 6 to 12 inch downpours, causing sudden floods. Worst of all is the powerful movement of the sea — the mountains
of water moving toward the hurricane center. The water level rises as much as 15 feet above normal as it moves toward shore.
32.When is an ordinary tropical storm called a hurricane?
A.When it begins in the Atlantic and Caribbean seas. B.When it hits the coastline.
C.When it is more than 75 miles wide. D.When its winds reach 75 miles per hour. 33.What is the worst thing about hurricanes?
A.The terrible effects of water. B.The heat they give off.
C.That they last about nine days. D.Their strong winds. 34.Here the word “downpour” means .
A.heavy rainfall B. the progress of water to the hurricane center
C.dangerous waves D.the increasing heat 35.Which statement about a hurricane is wrong?
A.It travels more than 75 miles per hour. B.It usually stays about 9 days.
C.It usually causes 6 to 12 inch downpours.
D.It sometimes brings the sea water level to the height of 15 feet.

阅读以下短文,选择合适的选项填入空格处,并在答题纸上将该选项标号涂黑。选项中有两项是多余选项。
A hobby is an investment of time. It also can be an investment of money and commitment. Many people choose to develop more than one type of hobby. 36 When it comes to choosing the hobby, consider the following factors.
Hobbies are usually an activity of some sort that brings out a certain skill that you have. When you have a talent like painting or woodworking,it can be easy to determine which hobby suits your skill. 37 Skill can be developed and challenged as you go along. It is not a necessary requirement. A hobby is fitting because you love it,not because you’re a professional at it.
Some people particularly enjoy taking part in hobbies that they can do in a group with others. It can be a lot more fun to join a hobby group than to sit alone in your basement. 38 It’s important to share interests and network with other hobby enthusiasts that do what you do.
Hobbies are generally an activity that you undertake because of the joy it brings you. Of course many people have discovered the joy that also comes with a hobby that earns you a living. 39 Just make sure you make the choice that fits your lifestyle and personal preference.
40 But most of the skilled hobbies like art, building or writing have a series of lessons or tutorials that you can
take to further your skills. In some cases it’s a really good idea to take lessons, especially if you are clueless as to where or how to begin. Step by step books for most hobbies can often be found in bookstores as well.
A.It can be a necessary part of selecting the hobby that is right for you.
B.Most hobbies can easily be done within your own home,at your leisure. C.Read hobby books to learn more about your chosen hobby!
D.Look one up or start your own.
E.Make a list of things that you enjoy or don’t know about. F.However, hobbies don’t have to be skill related.
G.Whether it’s full time, part time or not at all,you must decide if making money with your hobby applies to you.
