I have tried never to let my profession stand in the way of being a good parent. I no longer consider myself the center of the universe. I show up. I listen. I try to laugh. I am a good friend to my husband. I have tried to make marriage vows(誓约) mean what they say. I am a good friend to my friends, and they to me. Without them, there would be nothing to say to you today. So here's what I wanted to tell you today: Get a life. A real life, not a desire of the next promotion(提升), the bigger paycheck, the larger house. Get a life in which you are not alone. Find people you love, and who love you. And remember that love is not leisure(空闲), it is work. Pick up the phone. Send an e-mail. Write a letter. And realize that life is the best thing and that you have no business taking it for granted. It is so easy to waste our lives, our days, our hours, our minutes. It is so easy to exist instead of to live. I learned to live many years ago. Something really, really bad happened to me, something that changed my life in ways that, if I had my choice, it would never have been changed at all. And what I learned from it is what, today, seems to be the hardest lesson of all. I learned to love the journey, not the destination. I learned to look at all the good in the world and try to give some of it back because I believed in it, completely and totally. And I tried to do that, in part, by telling others what I had learned. By telling them this: Read in the backyard with the sun on your face. Learn to be happy. And think of life as a deadly illness, because if you do, you will live it with joy and passion as it ought to be lived. 36. The best title of this passage probably is A. Love your friends B. Live a real life C. Don't waste time D. Be a good mother and wife 37. How did the author form her view of life? A. By working and social experience. B. Learning from her friends. C. Through an unfortunate experience. D. Because of her children and husband. 38. The underlined sentence "It is so easy to exist instead of to live" in the fifth paragraph probably has the same meaning as A. it is so easy to keep alive but not to live a real life B. it is very hard to live a real life C. it is so easy to make a living D. it is more difficult to exist than to live a happy life 39. What's the author's attitude toward work? A. Do it well to serve others. B. To earn enough money to make life better. C. Try your best to get higher position and pay. D. Don't let it affect your real life. 40. It can be inferred from the passage that A. the author is a success in personal life B. the author didn't try her best to work well C. the author spent all her time caring for her children D. the author likes traveling very much 五、任务型阅读(满分10分) Educating girls quite possibly harvests a higher rate of return than any other investment available in the developing world. Women's education may be an unusual economical field, but increasing women's contribution to development is actually as much an economic as a social issue. And economics, with its focus on encouragement, provides an explanation for why so many girls are rid of an education. Parents in low-income countries fail to invest in their daughters because they do not expect them to make an economic contribution to the family: girls grow up only to marry into somebody else's family and bear children. Girls are thus seen as less valuable than boys and are kept at home to do housework while their brothers are sent to school -- the prophecy (观念) becomes self-fulfilling, trapping women in a vicious (恶性的) circle of neglect. An educated mother, on the other hand, has greater earning abilities outside the home and faces an entirely different set of choices. She is likely to have fewer but healthier children and can insist on the development of all her children, ensuring that her daughters are given a fair chance. The education of her daughters then makes it much more likely that the next generation of girls, as well as of boys, will be educated and healthy. The vicious circle is thus transformed into a virtuous circle. Few will argue that educating women has great social benefits. But it has enormous economic advantages as well. Most obviously, there is the direct effect of education on the wages of female workers. Wages rise by 10 to 20 per cent for each additional year of schooling. Such big returns are impressive by the standard of other available investments, but they are just the beginning. Educating women also has a significant effect on health practices, including family planning. Topic: The significance of female (1)           in developing countries Viewpoint Educating girls is more beneficial and worthy of being (2)            . Conclusion 作文 Dear Sir or Madam: I’m Li Hua from Class One, Senior Two. I’m writing to apply for the opportunity to help students in the countryside school with their English. I will put what I have learned into practice and improve their English during the summer vacation. Meanwhile, I can learn how to get along with students, which is beneficial to me. I’m kind, easy-going and always ready to help others. What’s more, I wash clothes and make beds by myself. Besides, English is my favorite subject and I have won many prizes in English contests. Therefore, I think I will be qualified for this position. As to how to teach English well, I plan to communicate with them to know what they need. Moreover, I will try my best to arouse their interest in English by telling stories, singing songs, playing games and so on. I would appreciate it if you could give me the chance. Yours Sincerely, Li Hua 36. C。 38. C。前文“His face was bright red and he sounded really angry.” 51. A。 故选A。 52. A。 55. A。后文“It was her life.”
